New Tire Question/ PS4S Backorder
Hi
Going to replace the original tires with Michelin PS4S. It's a MY19 R Coupe 4 years old with 25k. Plan was
Front
255/35ZR20
Rears
295/30ZR20
Unfortunately the rears are back ordered at most places. I called Tire Rack(listed as back order ) and they said they have Porsche and BMW in the same specs for the rear that would fit on my car? They said the only difference is a subtle insignia that most people won't notice.
Do this? If I did I'd ask about sending back if they didn't fit? He was confident it wasn't an issue.
If not, thoughts about the Pilot Sport cup 2?
I was planning to have this all done at the dealer who will do alignment etc.
Thank you in advance.

The Cups are great tires, but more towards serious running than your original plan. The Porsche/BMW versions of the 4S are closer to your original objective. The differences are minor (like a slightly stiffer sidewall), and fit would not be an issue.
That said, it wouldn't hurt to look around a bit more. You don't say where you are, but I just put on a fresh set last month and had no problem getting them in 48 hours through either my local tire store or Costco. (I've used Costco in the past with good results, but went with the local shop because they were closer and would price match.)

I always used Pilot sport code N(x) tires on my ex 911/ boxsters, they say have some tweaks on the side wall, etc, Probably not necessary on front mounted engine cars but doesn't hurt to get them, they just a bit more expensive.
My preference is PS4s, I also had Cup2, you feel the extra grip, wear faster and on heavy rain the traction control kicks many time when floor it/ change gear. P zero's I don't like so much but to be fair, they never failed me.
Currently I use Std PS4s (21") on summer and PS Alpin (20") on winter, I might try the Cup again.

I was shocked by how much cheaper the MPS AS4s are than my preferred replacement (same as current) MPS4S, especially the rears, $292 vs $493 for the rears and $268 vs $327 for the fronts (USD and stock 295/30 ZR20 + 255/35 ZR20).
If I ever needed or wanted all-season tyres I would go for the AS4s but I reckon I will stick with the MPS4S for now and wear the price hike.
Unless the new Conti SportContact 7 in the right sizes is available then at a good price, I have read rave reviews about it but it simply isn't available yet here in Oz in any size.

MPS5s are becoming available now .... https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=6288
But they are the MPS5, not the MPS5S, that S on the end makes a yuge difference!
No word yet on when Michelin plan to release the MPS5S.

Yeah, I made it lower case to stress it was a plural ....

The difference in tire design between the generic and branded PS4s is de minimis particular in how handling is affected on a front engine car as already mentioned. The primary difference will manifest itself in the price as the branded production runs are more limited than those for the generics. As with any tire choice, take it easy until the tires are broken in and you get used to any potential changes in the handling characteristics.

Got the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Rears ended up being Mercedes but except for the small marking wouldn't notice a physical difference.
Front
255/35ZR20
Rears
295/30ZR20
I can't objectively compare the new tires to the original tires, but I can say new tires sure do beat old worn-down ones. It's like an entire new driving experience. I can't believe how much more of the engine/exhaust I can hear.
I bought them from tire rack, the entire experience was painless, support amazing. Highly recommend.
