Default Newbie Q re: DSC vs Dynamic vs Sport Modes

Man, what a vehicle. Just learning all about this high performance sports car. I've had it two weeks now.

So, is there a good reference to what these three items really control? It appears that there are 3 switches, thus 9 different combinations!

For general aggressive street fun, what changes happen to the car:

-with DSC on (default) and...

1. DM and SM off (default)
2. DM off, SM on
3. DM on, SM off
4. DM and SM on

-with DSC off and...

5. DM and SM off
6. DM off, SM on
7. DM on, SM off
8. DM and SM on

9. All off.

Is there a combination you prefer? One that blows you away? One that raises the performance while maintaining good control?

Thanks!!

Would never turn D.SC. Off on a public road, the D.SC. Is not overly interventional and it is still possible to spin wheels and get the tail out a bit even with it on.

The most fun you can have with your clothes on is Dynamic plus sport and use the paddles.

Dynamic mode controls Throttle response, steering response, suspension response, and some aspect of the automatic transmission
Sport mode affects automatic transmission shift points.
The 3 DSC settings control various degree of throttle intervention when losing traction.

someone with the AT would have to explain all the shifting idiosyncracies for each of those settings. (or RTFM).

You can also customize what gets changed in Dynamic Mode.

So it seems like the wildest yet still somewhat controllable ride is to have SM on, DM on, and DSC on.

Turn off SM and DM when listening to jazz.

Pretty much always keep DSC on.

DSC vs. TracDSC vs. Off
I find DSC to be too intrusive. If I decide "oh, crap, I need to punch it" it cuts throttle rather than letting the wheels spin. TracDSC doesn't cut things off as abruptly, but doesn't let me spin out into the woods if I'm just too much of a dumbass.

Dynamic
I like standard throttle, dynamic steering, dynamic suspension. I never change that.

Sport Mode
With a manual transmission, that's between my brain, my right hand, and my right foot. Sometimes, I can be a dumbass. Sometimes that's fun. Sometimes it's stupid (see TracDSC above).

If DSC really is Dynamic Stability Control, then wouldn't it also use a single or multiple brakes in an attempt to get the car back in line, in addition to traction control? In which case, that effect probably varies with the different settings too.

This is somewhat off-topic ... regarding the shifting in manual/sport mode in an automatic.

Does everybody notice / have a lurch from the 3->2 downshift at low speed and rpm? It's slightly better in dynamic, but still noticeable for me. That's the only real issue I have with the automatic transmission.

It seems like I get more pops and bangs in my R in SM. I understand that SM holds the gear longer thereby extending the overrun. However, it seems like the PCM operates with a different strategy in that mode.

I have never driven the car without DSC completely off in the dry. It's just much more engaging. I leave it on in the rain.

For the first 30+ years of driving (including in the rain) many of us didn't have a choice. Yet, we're still here to talk about it.

Haha, I couldn't afford a car when I got my license. Miss the grocery bag flapping in the wind days.

how do you completely turn off DSC, I've been trying and every time someone always says, it's not completely turn off

If you hold the DSC switch down for less than 3 seconds, it toggles between 'DSC On' and 'TracDSC.' If you hold it down for more than 3 seconds, it should display 'DSC Off', and display a warning.

At least, that's what my manual says. (Hint, hint... )

Since the MT has no Sport Mode, I suspect that SM only affects how the AT is operated and how it performs. True? Does DM also affect the AT operation or like the MT only affect steering response, suspension dampening and throttle response?

Dynamic definitely affects shift points; tends to keep the engine at higher revs. Sport mode even more so. I think sport mode only affects the transmission, while dynamic does the other stuff too.

The auto has the ability to hold a gear through a corner rather than upshifting, and it can downshift on a downgrade for engine braking. Never noticed if those require dynamic or not.
