Win 10 is indeed very stable, however privacy violations are in egregious territory. While Enterprise allows you to regain some control, Home version will give it to you raw.

By using Windows 10 you agree to:
1. Send your use statistics to Microsoft, this includes what applications are installed on your machine and how much you use them
2. Send any file on your system to Microsoft if it is deemed necessary by Windows Defender. There is no exceptions for any kind of sensitive documents and pictures. This also means that MS can be asked by courts to share these files.
3. Microsoft advertises to you via lock-screen. For now it just other MS software, but there is no reason to expect it will stay limited to that.
4. Microsoft can install or remove software from your machine. For now they just install nuisance applications, like Candy Crush. However, there is nothing stopping them, for example, replacing your favorite PDF viewer with their own. They have done this already once on Windows 10 phones with map software by force-migrating everyone to a different software.
5. Microsoft really pushy with OneDrive, this cloud (i.e. on Microsoft server somewhere) service
6. If you use Microsoft built-in encryption (BitLocker), then they by default backup key on their server. Meaning, it isn't really encrypted for anyone that can issue subpoena for MS.
7. Unless you are Enterprise customer, updates are force-fed to you on their schedule. This means your machine better be something brand-name and vanilla (e.g. Dell) to avoid updates breaking your PC
8. Microsoft really pushy with Office 365, where you have to pay subscription for what was pay-once office purchase.

I’m using office 2016. Don’t need to be online to use it. I ‘m not planning to overthrow anything, so it’s no biggie anyway if Big Brother looks at my docs. I just don’t want anyone tracking speed, torque production or engine revs. That’s where it gets personal.

@SinF, +1 to all. For those that think you can control update, it only works for so long. It will lock your system if the updates don't happen within an allotted time frame. The auto takeover of pdf viewer is maddening. I dont want this with a car.

Wish I knew then what I know now. I automatically got Windows 10 with a new ASUS laptop and absolutely hate both the op sys and the device. If changing computers wasn't such a PITA, I'd run over the ASUS with my car and start all over.

@Fujicoupe.
There are companies specialising in this....

[ ..changing over the data, not running over the laptop I mean.. ]

2 years ago, I switched from Win XP to Win 7 with the very good help from a tech help company in India.
I bought an external hard drive, connected it to my desktop and followed their directions. I could continue to use my 'puter ,with some minor down time, so they could do their stuff. Cost a couple hundred, but very well worth it.
Local computer store needed 2-3 days and more $$...

Here a PC-store that sells you a new PC sets it up for € 30 . Transferring your files max € 100.
What you did with this 'remote' centre is the way to get hacked or confronted with identity fraud...

Every few days when my Samsung phone wants to update itself, I cancel the updates until they automatically update. Often, the update makes the phone almost unusable. I hate them. As for viruses, two weeks ago my computer got hacked with the ranson virus, and $4300.00 later, I finally got my computer and all of the files back. But I'm nervous now!

@tberg.
I had a Samsung S6 edge, lovely phone, wanted to keep it forever... .. but Samsung didn't update it after android 6.... ... at the same time it got ever more crap google BS apps so the memory shorted..
Then I did several factory resets, and started to switch it of at night [ this really helps for a long time !]. Then it started with blocking Whats App as this was updated to later versions and the OS was not..

Finally I bought a Motorola X4 as the specialists in the magazines said it did not have that problem... Well now I have Android 8. And the BS google apps start streaming in again..

A sales lady in the phone shop said : android is free, google makes money with this BS. With Apple you buy the OS and you don't get the bloatwhare...

Never thought about that, but probably true... ... next phone an Iphone... Or a pigeon...

Always keep in mind that if you aren't paying for it, YOU are the product. Think of Faceplant, Twatter, and any other social media product.
As for Iphone, I switched on the advice of others from the Android platform and switched back within Verizon's free swap period--to a Galaxy S8 (an over priced upgrade IMHO.),

That must be a very long time then because I have had my Microsoft Surface for just over 2 years and have probably manually applied updates only 3 times over that period. I keep it at work and only ever read the paper on it so would be fed up to turn it on to find it doing forced updates.

My home PC says this at the moment and politely told me this morning that it couldn't do updates.

Looking through its update logs, I last applied patches in May.

If you want to get more extreme you can disable scheduled processes in Task Scheduler and it won't even try to do updates then.

We are turning this thread into a computer thread on Windows, so all I'll say at this point is we have lost a lot of control and it will continue and my car is not where I want to give up any.

Default V-8 SVR

Speaking of V-8s... I have made a deal to trade my XE sport (keeping the F type R / Italian racing Red) for the new F Pace SVR..

Poor choice of colours, for my taste with this SVR.. (ie: pale blue / tomato red etc.) but I managed to find a silver that is ok.. Also not sure why its 550 h.p. version rather than a 575 version.

Regardless, the XE is really good, but I wanted to get one of the last V8's.

I had considered the XJ SVR, however for some reason, the SVR engine is only available with the 'land yacht' stretched body version.. having driven both versions in the past, I couldn't imagine owning / driving the chauffeur version.

I'm surprised that the V-8 is going out of production so fast when taking into consideration the appetite in North America for fast cars and the sheer fun of a supercharged V-8.

Dealer says mid-winter delivery ? I will update on the F pace forum when it gets closer, or in.

@Mulmur.
I am sóóó jealous of you.... ... completely ridiculously taxed '..out-of-this-world..' on this side of the big pond..
So much, JLR doesn't even offer it here. A FT V8 starts at € 200.000,- now. Not the SVR even..

I think you made a good buy. Although I would personnally have bought a RRS V8 [ don't even know of such a beast exists in petrol],
although the RRS will soon have anew model.

Did you get any discount on that F-Pace SVR? I am considering moving out of my X5
