New 2014 Convertible owner here (new to me anyway) and after reading all the 'Sticky Buttons' threads I have a question or two.. My car had shall we say a previous 'Harsh Mistress' so it has a few scratches and scrapes which need to be taken care of (reason I got it for a good price of course), but those are just paint cosmetics which are reasonably easy to deal with, so no problem there...
Kerbed wheels, again, unsightly, but easy to fix and the Start/Stop switch being almost unreadable seems to be an easy and cost effective fix also, so again thanks for that and no problem there..
However, there seems to be no 'Definitive' consensus on the sticky buttons issue? I mean they are not driving me to distraction, yet, but I would like to fix them if possible, as long as it doesn't cost a ridiculous amount of money to do so.
Most popular suggestion(s), seem to be either rubbing off all of the soft touch coatings, or replacing them under warranty (which is not an option for me unfortunately) and looking at the price to replace the steering wheel ($1300, yikes!), I am wondering if there is a way to change out the buttons throughout the cabin (the worst ones at least) without breaking the bank, and if it is even possible to do so?? Can you change the steering wheel switch clusters without replacing the whole thing? And the center console ones?
If so, does anybody know where I can buy them? I am in Dubai, so I am guessing I would have to import them no matter where they are so it doesn't matter where they are, have family in UK and US, so they will send them over.....
Anyway, absolutely loving my new car. Was going to go for a boxster until they ruined it with the 4 cylinder and after being a long time Porsche guy, was time for a change anyway!! That growl is contagious, even my Wife nicks the car for a spin now...
These are for the 2015 model year. You can find the parts explosion for other years on that site if you need to. Grab the part numbers and go to:Land Rover Parts and Jaguar Spares | Britcar UK Ltd They have great prices and will ship around the world.
I have a really small crack in the lens on the rightmost climate control knob. Apparently that would set me back $700+ since the whole climate module needs changing? Did I look at that wrong?
Avoid buying from the local "Al Tayer" dealership. All prices are hiked up and most of the times they don't have the parts. I personally order everything online including the brakes/rotors that they quote $1650 to have replaced.
The steering part is T2R18648 for the volume buttons. Its roughly $190. You can use shop&ship to have it delivered to your Dubai address.
You can try to use some contact cleaner, this may alleviate your problems if it is just dirt in the contacts in the short term, but other than that, you have to replace the button clusters. The bad news is, the 'Left' ones (volume control etc) are about $300, and the right ones (Cruise) are about $150, but they are both very easy to replace...
Looks like I may be trying to remove mine to refinish. Other than just starting to pry off with plastic bit removal tool, anyone have any advise for me?
