Default Now.... "THEY" are going after tires

The next thing on their list, Ban tires that they don't want the consumer to have. This is a mental sickness, Control freaks!

No grip, no fun. Hence no need for power, handling, or driver autonomy. And so it goes....

These people are evil. They are however very smart in their thinking because the bottom line is, if you can't get tires for your vehicle you can't drive the car. And that's their goal.

Of ocurse, if you can't drive your car you'd have to scrap it and buy another that supports the available tyres - so wasting more resources. Why can't people use their brains?

"Don't Tread On Me" ?

This obviously merits close monitoring.

But not every cockamamie bill gets passed. When I lived in Washington there was a bill to ban washing cars in your own driveway. It went down in flames.

Meanwhile the WA state legislators did have the intelligence to entirely abolish state emissions testing.

true, but we do have some wacky people governing the state. Not quite CA wacky but getting close to OR wacky.

You will love this one. We have really high license plate tabs in the Seattle area because of various taxes add to our $30 tabs. My tabs were over $400 for my 2016 S. HOWEVER, if you drive a 1-ton truck you are exempt from the silliness and your tabs are $116. All 1-ton and above are considered commercial and are exempt from a lot of tab add-ons. You do not have to own a business for the reduction. So guess what you see a lot on our roads?

Just give me the LeMay license plate please! Black with white letters for those outside of WA.

In Oregon anything over xxx-GVW is consider "commercial". I can't remember the specifics at the moment but nowadays a lot of (the very common) F350s and similar pickups would fall into that category, regardless of actual usage. Naturally the registration is more expensive.

My own experience is that Oregon DMV will let private individuals register the truck either way, personal or commercial....with the caveat "The State Patrol sometimes sees thing differently" .

It appears to be a rarity but the OSP can cite you for it, apparently. I reckon that's in cases where the truck is very clearly being used commercially but has non-commercial plates.

Seem like a non-issue since the article states you can just order tires from some other state and have them shipped to you. Or does that hurt the narrative?

Okay... in all fairness, that exemption for 1-ton trucks is for a tax to pay for rapid transit in the Puget Sound area... pretty much just Seattle and surroundings. I live in another WA state county further west, and my car tabs do not include that tax. And I don't get Sound Transit. Boo hoo.

But, with regards to HB2262, I agree that it ain't done yet. Certainly pretty much every tire store in the state (including Costco, Walmart, Sears, etc.) will have something to say about this. I'll definitely keep and eye on the progress. But, as I bought my last full set of tires from Tire Rack, I have to admit that - unless the text REALLY gets wacky - I'll reserve judgement.

Does anyone but me think this is a backhanded way to promote EV's? Because of their weight, most EV tires are specifically designed for high loads & low rolling resistance. It's bad enuf that EV's pay no fuel tax - as 'they' haven't figured out a way that EV's will pay to support roadway maintenance - but now they're apparently proposing a surtax just for non-EVs to USE the roads they're already taxed to support. <judgemental comment withheld>

uh... moderator, perhaps it's time to move this thread elsewhere? Just a thought...

Here in Commiefornia there is a legislator that wants to limit the speed capability of all vehicles sold after a certain date to 10 MPH above the maximum speed limit on any roads here which is currently 70 MPH. On a great many sections of freeway here if you aren't doing 85 MPH you had better stay in the right hand lane.

Of course the reasoning is that it will "save lives". Funny how it's always that one political party that wants to put their jackboot heels on the backs of our necks isn't it ?

I guess a lot of your neighbors are voting with their feet and driving out of state permanently.

The entire rest of the Internet is reserved for political rants - can we keep them there and not here?

Speed limits are now what you consider to be jackbooted thuggery?

Is the sign of a good political party when the de facto leader is indicted 91 times, a convicted rapist, a twice convicted slanderer and traitorous pants-*******?
