Agree. They served a purpose when cars were prone to rust issues and faulty emissions equipment. They will never disappear because of the revenue it generates for the state and service garages. Pennsylvania has annual emissions and safety. $100 and a disclaimer that any part on this car may fail after the inspection.

I experienced the battery drain problem in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, following the annual emissions inspections. I solved the problem by moving to a county, Butler, that does not require the emissions inspection.
