What imbecile decided that was the correct way to pronounce the word jaguar?
Yes, the emphasis is on the first syllable but the word has three syllables not two - it is JAG - u - ar!!!.
But I suppose it is (very slightly) better than JAG - wire!
Edit - maybe I was just a tad harsh.
In the online Oxford dictionary the English version says JAG - u -ar but the US version says JAG- whar, see here: https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/jaguar
Toggle between UK and US and hit the "pronunciation" link on each.
