Just finished changing my oil using the above noted equipment. Whoa, that's the easiest oil change i have ever done, now i'd feel kinda guilty spending the money to have someone else do it. The pump is just shy of awesome and only regret is i didn't change the oil as soon as i bought the car, who knows the last time it was changed? The car is a '14 but only had 9500 miles on it.
I did put the 0-20 in vs 5-20, feeling a little weird about that, it doesn't get that cold where i live.
Also encountered an oddity. I evacuated about 7.25 liters and refilled with about 7.15 liters. After filling, i checked the oil level and it showed as filled. I started the engine and ran it a few and then rechecked it and got the message "oil level not available" am wondering if that is because the oil is not warm? Anyone else encounter this?
You'll need to wait ~30 minutes after engine shut off before it will report an oil level.
Lance is correct, this is the one item to grab from the dealer. they have the Castrol EDGE Pro OE most of the time also. i get it for $13.45/quart. Was paying $18 on ebay for the PRO OE until i found this out. Takes less then 10 minutes if the oil is hot. These engines don't like to go the service interval if run hard, change it often!! send it to Blackstone ($28) for piece of mind!
There are multiple issues that come from long service interval. Intake sludge residue, chain wear due to nano-carbon byproduct of DI, and blow-by are not linear with oil life. It ramps-up exponentially with miles. So by cutting service interval by 33% you cut these types of wear by more than 50%.
Personal anecdote. One of my Subarus was an oil burner, ended up with an engine tear-down under warranty. By now this is a well-known issue that was traced to scraper rings being too stiff. Back then they just switched to 0w20 oil on a newly redesigned engine and all of that was unknown. Oil burning worked the following way - first 1000 km had no oil consumption. From 3000 km it becomes about 1L/1000 km, by 7000 km it would escalate to 2.5L/1000km. I did oil analysis on this, and changes in viscosity between 1000km oil and 7000km oil were negligible, yet effect on oil consumption was drastic.

Worth noting: the engine was replaced. It's been 2 oil changes since the new engine, last report he mentioned the high values and was 99% sure it from the old engine residual oil still in the system. Suggested I lower the interval to 3500 miles and retest. So here we are.
