Oil change price quote from dealer ....
#21
Easiest oil change of any car I've ever owned. Filter unscrews from the top and drops right out. Extraction of oil via the sump tube under the oil cap into my pump. Takes about 5 minutes, and not a drop of oil spilled. Bonus: my pump collects the oil into a calibrated reservoir and I see exactly how much was removed. Makes refill idiot proof.
Agreed. I get almost excited every year about this time because I change the oil in the F Type. Then in less than 10 minutes I realize I am done and that was all there was to it. It is so quick and easy.

cujet you did mention something that may not be well known? I have seen Jaguar recommend that you should break the seal on the oil filter BEFORE vacuuming the oil out the tube. I have never worried about that but will now start by first loosening the oil filter a bit and then remove the oil.
Can't see why it matters as the oil filter housing has anti-drain back valves installed so you will always have a small puddle of oil inside the filter housing?

Here’s the oil change procedure, including warming up the oil, cracking the seal on the filter, switching the electronic dipstick to ‘live’, etc.

This is how to drain via the drain plug on the oil pan.
Removing the oil through the top, with a pump, is easier.
BUT, you don't have an opportunity to gain speed because you are not removing all the rocks/pebbles/road debris in the engine under-shield. That stuff is HEAVY!

Hey guys,
We just called my local Jaguar dealer to get a price quote before an oil change for the Jaguar F-Type sports car. I did not even get it to specifics as to whether it's a V6 or V8 or a 4-cylinder. The girl at the service department immediately told me it's $400 for an oil change.
Hahahaha ....... 🤣
The dealership is delusional !!

Independent Jaguar auto technician
For anyone who resides in the Northern New Jersey area, Rockland county New York area or the five borough New York City area. here is information for an excellent independent Jaguar technician.
I found my solution to the crazy high price oil change at dealership.
First, I should explain that I do not have a car garage. I reside at a condominium. Parking is designated parking spaces in outdoor parking lot at the complex. If I did, I'd definitely do the oil change procedure myself in the car garage but
this this isnt an option for me.
MAROTAS MOTORS
Independent Jaguar Service & Repair

The proprietor's name is Mario.
Mario has a long history working on Jaguar cars. Worked at Jaguar dealership in Paramus NJ for several years. Mario also worked for Jaguar Land Rover headquarters in Mahwah NJ.
The price of an oil change is approximately $180. He uses Liquid Molly oil and he uses the Mann brand oil filter.
When speaking with Mario he informed me that he does the oil change the traditional way by draining the oil from the bottom of the engine. He does not like the idea of sucking out the dirty old oil with the mighty vac oil extractor. He said he likes to do it the old-fashioned way. He further added by doing it this way he can carefully examine the underbelly of the car to make sure everything is okay and to clean any debris that may have accumulated at the belly pan area of the car.
Mario has worked on numerous Jaguar F-Type cars. He has a F Type R sports car inside his garage. He changed the plastic Y pipe with the aluminum version cooling pipe kit.
If there's anyone residing within this area, you should definitely consider trying Mario at his independent auto service shop.

From this video removing the oil from the top doesn't get all the old oil out. In this video there was over a quart of old oil still in the pan. That's very concerning to me so I'd probably have to pay for a proper oil change.

This video shows what happens when you use the incorrect size extractor for the job. Most extractors have a float sensor that shuts off vacuum to prevent overfill and spillage. He needs the 10.5L version of the brand of extractor he uses to get the job done properly. That is why he wasn't able to get the remainder out and so much came out when he pulled the plug. This notion that the extractor method leaves oil in the pan is what originally lead to me doing my own testing several years ago on my 11 XF 5.0S. No additional oil came out of the drain plug. The notion is simply untrue. My XF went on to go over 187K miles and was still running when the engine was pulled. Eventually after several other projects I have going on are completed, I will be doing an engine teardown so the forum can see what a 5.0S looks like after that kind of mileage. Don't let people steal your money, the extractor method works perfectly.

The service reminder comes up around 16,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first.
Here’s the procedure for clearing the message, if it bothers you…

You get four years of service included with the vehicle so why wouldn't you just bring it to the dealer and have them do it for free? If the car was put in service in August 2023 and you've never changed the oil then it is overdue by time, regardless of mileage. With these DI engines and low mileage, it really should be changed annually.

This is my video and I have pinned a comment that states you need to loosen the filter. I changed the oil about a month ago and only about 50cc of oil came out from the drain plug after extracting from the top as much as I could. I'll probably do a drain plug oil change maybe every 4th oil change. Using the extractor is extremely easy to do, it's not worth taking to the dealer partially because of the extra cost but mainly because it's a waste of about 3+ hours of your time dropping the car off and waiting around or going back and forth to pick it up.
BTW, this is how the oil looks after 11 months and 4,000 miles
Second oil change

Basically, that 50ml extra doesn't merit ever touching the drain plug. When I pull 7L out with the extractor there is 250ml old left somewhere in the engine. It mixes with the new.

I'm slowly setting up to do an oil change on my 2018 base model I4. Does anyone have instructions for it?
From what I can find from browsing, the changes from the V6/V8 are:
- different filter size and different wrench size
- no digital oil level (has a dip stick instead)
- different volume (but not sure what it should be)

I can't believe this thread is still going! Nothing like an oil thread to start some friendly debate just my humble opinion but done properly I'm in the camp of take it from the top. I remove the filter, suction the small bit of oil from the filter mount, clean up/cover with a rag, and remove the rest of the oil. Is there a little but left? Maybe a very small amount but honestly just about any car will have residual, the new oil will dilute and the new filter should deal with anything significant left over. So much faster for us guys without a lift.
Shall we discuss what brand of oil is the best? (just kidding!)
