Default Oil consumption, track day

I’ve done a couple performance driving events with Simraceway at Sonoma and noticed that the oil level drops about 1/4 quart each event. For normal driving, oil level hasn’t dropped at all. Curious to know what is normal for the F-Type. Those of you that track your F-Type, how much oil consumption have you noticed after each track day?

Sounds about right with what other have said. Maintained high RPMs and forced induction usually causes some blow by. i think this is what causes some of the premature failures of the AJ, people don't check the oil and wait until it needs service, usually too late if it needs 5 quarts.

I have not tracked my F-Type, but I am darn sure tracking Florence--don't want to find out if the sexy couple floats! Being less than 3 miles from the Atlantic and one mile from the ICW is a wonderful place to live but does come with its moments of breath holding. So far (8:20 AM) light rain and gusty winds to perhaps 25-30 MPH but expected to escalate. Power is already flickering, and being without that modern marvel is generally the worst part of these storms, that and cleaning up debris when the event is over.
Stay safe everyone.

No loss here, but what you describe is not alarming to me.

However, consider catch can or regular chemical intake cleaner.

Thanks all. I’m guessing it is blow by. Not too concerned since it’s not much and haven’t seen any loss with normal street driving. Reading online, oil consumption on the track is normal and other makes seem to consume more, but I haven’t seen much info on how much the F-Type consumes. Hopefully others will add their data.

Catch can is interesting, I haven’t checked or cleaned the intake yet. I normally use Seafoam, but have read that the foaming kind of cleaners like Chrysler Combustion Chamber Cleaner or Amsoil Power Foam is better. What do you all use for intake cleaning?

Fujicoupe: stay safe and dry!

Keep in mind that F-type doesn't have low engine oil indicator. That is, you have to keep checking oil manually as the car won't warn you about running low until you suck in air and lose oil pressure.

Also, direct injection and blow-by are not ideal combination, as intake sludge formation is a concern.

I don't find it too time consuming to check oil level and tyre pressure each day, indeed whilst I can understand people who prefer a traditional dip stick, it is quicker to check oil level than opening bonnet, withdraw dip stick, wipe, replace, withdraw, read level, replace and close bonnet.

Normally, I would agree with you. However JLR made a decision to restrict oil level checking to cold engine. If you start the engine it won't report the oil level.

Actually, the procedure for my MY 2018 is to check the oil with a warm engine but to wait ten minutes after it has been shut off, on a level surface of course.

What more can you tell about the Simraceway experience / procedures at Sonoma? How to learn more, cost etc?

With 4 track days, I used up 1/2qt. It sounds perfectly fine to me.

They run well organized events. For the courses the procedures depend on the course level. For PD1 you get some classroom sessions, car control practice on the parking lot (slalom, turning/braking), and 3 or 4 lead-follow track sessions. PD2 still has classroom sessions, but focus more on preparing for solo track driving. There are 4 track sessions, first one or two is lead follow with instruction how to do point-by passing and where the passing zones are, last few sessions are solo with point-by passing. During the track sessions, the instructor monitors how everyone drives and shouts out advice over the radio. There is also an autocross session, which I found was excellent to improve car control. It was also really fun learning how to manage oversteer in a RWD F-Type and learn how to drift a bit. I was told PD3 is all solo track time with another autocross session. The courses are $495-$595. They also occasionally have Track Day Plus events that are basically a track day but there are instructors that can provide advice. I believe these are $295. Check out their website for more info.
