oil level reading

Sounds like you're fine - maybe on the edge of a slight overfill. Ideally, you should check the oil after driving enough to warm the engine/oil, park on level ground, and let the car sit for 10 minutes or so for the distributed oil to drain back into the sump. My guess is that you're in the range where there would be enough residual scattered around that it will test OK.

Based on my experience, the longer the vehicles sits (overnight or many days), the lower the oil level reading. I recently had my oil changed, and my initial reading 15 mins after coming home was around 4/5 with the indicator saying "OK", whereas the reading after 3 days of sitting was around 3/5 and "OK."
