Default oil life

good morning and evening.
how long is the oil and filter life on the F type.
some newer cars have a sensor to monitor oil life and tell the owner when to change it.
anything like this on the F ?

For 2014 (and I think later), Jaguar requires the spec'd synthetic oil to be changed annually or at any interval not to exceed 16,000 miles, whichever comes first. I think most folks end up in the annual configuration. I don't believe there is an oil monitoring system per se but I've never researched that.

16k or annually, wow thats good if its true.
but i wonder what our members are finding with this extended oil life.

are users on this forum happy with 16k or are they replacing oil more frequently?

Most of us are on the Annual reminder. Not that we wouldn't enjoy driving the F more...

I’m guessing most of us change oil in the 5000 to 8000 mile range. Not many will suggest going the full 16k miles.

Yet another potentially contentious topic.

A few of us have been getting our oil analyzed to see whether the extended use is likely to be an issue. There's a thread on it:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...-yours-217110/

All my tests so far have indicted plenty of useful life remaining at the time of change. The only exception to the factory recommendations I'd make is to change the oil on a new engine by about 5,000 miles. Looking at that thread, I see I haven't posted in it. I know I posted in another. Maybe I'll correct that oversight, but not before breakfast.

Longest interval I've got for oil analysis was 9700 miles. The TBN was still 5.0 at that point and wear reportedly excellent.

These days I don't get 16k miles in a year. I used to do 17.5K a year just on my motorcycle. I've done about 1200 miles in the last year Maybe that'll improve now that things are opening up again. I've been vaccinated, so can technically start commuting again although I'm not sure why I would want to: perhaps to get a little face to face social interaction, but more likely to go to "Casa de Chocolates" near the office.

very strange - post didn't stick - trying again.

I'm one of those that has run extended intervals for over 35 years with synthetic oils. All of it has been done in conjunction with oil analysis to validate the extended intervals, or even in a couple of cases - continue to extend longer. I've never experienced any oil related failures or wear; we've had numerous vehicles in our of family members possession - two over 150,000, two over 130,000 and more over 100,000 miles. My bud also has done quite a bit of research to support oil filter life; validated by buds of mine in the business who tell me the oil filter manufactures laugh at how often their filters are replaced unnecessarily. Any decent sized filter these days by a good manufacturer will go the 16,000 miles that Jag has stipulated.

Please all, let's all respect the fact that some of us may disagree on our practices; I respect that of all. Everyone is entitled to their desired practices. My choices are routinely backed by science (data and analysis).

I will likely go based on the mileage requirement, not worrying about the annual stipulation.

I've always hit the annual interval well before the mileage one (typically 5000-7000 miles) on the Jag. But on our previous Land Rover with the AJ133 5.0 V8 (naturally aspirated) we did over 12k miles/year with annual oil changes and got over 100k trouble free miles before we switched to the new Discovery with the 3.0 V6 SC. Been doing 15,000miles/yr on that for the past couple of years and great so far

Like the idea of putting some science behind it. I'm on over 14k miles since last oil change now - what's a good way to do an oil analysis. Can I just pull a sample (how much?) and what companies are good to do the analysis?

I'll happily post up the results.
