Does your car by any chance have a "smart top" unit installed? That little aftermarket box does allow one to reverse the way the switch works.

Your reported switch operation is indeed the opposite of mine, which is OEM. Pull up, top goes forward (closes). Push down, top goes back (opens). I double-checked tonight to make sure I wasn't crazy.

But, it's always been easy for me to remember "push down means top down and pull up means top up."

problem is that the shifter can be used to also up and down shift and therefor you need the stupid button to not accidentally put it in reverse when hitting the stick. For an automatic an actually shift gate would be better, it is not a dual clutch don't try to fake one you have the paddles to shift up and down, just use the stick to select drive mode, done.

but the popup dial is not much better and makes you look, because who counts how many clicks you turned the knob ...

I agree, down for down up for up. I like what Smartop does where you don't have to hold button. I had it on my SLK55 because I didn't have to install my self.

I sure am glad that we have these kinds of threads along with complaints of stereo performance and other similar things instead of reading about catastrophic driveline failures! Yippee!!

Dave
I try not to see the stereo issues as a catostrophic failure (unto itsself), but it's getting difficult.

I've never had any real issue with reverse. I do have two vehicles with the same gear selector though so that might be helping. The one thing that does trip me up on occasion is when I go to put it in park after having it in S. It's ended up in reverse a few times instead!!

Not trying to minimize anyone's difficulties and you deserve to have any and all issues addressed on a premium sportscar.....but the vast majority of issues brought up in this forum are extremely minor IMO. There are very few that I would consider major issues (the early car's clutch issues being an example of one).

As far as the stereo goes; I think mines fine but honestly, I barely ever turn it on. I don't listen to stereos in most vehicles and especially in ones with nice engine/exhaust notes I prefer to hear.....and once the top goes down, I want the stereo on even less. ....it does drive my wife a little crazy though.

Cheers,
Dave

Dave, we certainly appear to have a virtually identical outlook on these matters.

I haven't weighed in much on this issue. My sound system does not buzz or rattle anything for which I am very grateful. However, had I had the opportunity of ordering the original rock bottom 170 watt system, I would have done so. A high end high fidelity system is just not a consideration when I buy a high performance sports car. This really goes for any kind of vehicle. In fact, my GMC has an am/fm stereo with a virtually unused cassette player, and the FJ40 has no radio at all (could no longer hose down the interior if I had one). Jag should offer a hi-fi delete option so that everyone could most economically install exactly what they want.

I didn't mean to imply by my comment that the car is a failure as I love the car, but it is a disappointment that needs rectifying by Jaguar.

I think we just hijacked this thread.....back to OP's question....
