Opinions on 3rd party trackers and alarms
Most likely this has been discussed somewhere on the forum before (couldn't find it) but anyway
Finally finished getting my Blackvue dash cam installed properly and when talking to the installer he was trying to up sell some third party alarms and trackers.
He had some quite eye opening stories about the security on Jaguars and a few other manufactures but specifically on the jag how people are breaking into what i assume is the CAN bus or something similar and using software to program a new key, but here is the catch the wires they need are in the mirror.
So the potential thief break the mirror off - wires in - programs new key - and is done!
He had other stories where in other models of other manufactures they would identify weak points cut holes and get the wires again. All this along with other methods like radio frequency boosters/relays.
So yeah.... defiantly got me thinking.
I know it's in his interest to sell things like this as he installs them in the end and its money for him.
But i was just wondering what the community thinks to 3rd party alarms and trackers and if they are effective/worthwhile ?

Well:
1. If you ever need to get into your car after locking yourself out, one of these guys will know how. Expect to pay cash, and more than the initial quote if you want them to get in without damaging anything.
2. It depends what you mean by Third Party. In the UK, it's possible to pay third parties to supply and fit the same model Tracker as Jaguar offer for a lot less than Jaguar charge. My Salesman was a little appalled when i showed him the quoted price on the website of a car security specialist based less than a mile from the Dealership. He knocked £100 off the fitted price on the spot...
