Our Less Than Perfect Backup Cameras

Definitely. My old car and my current project car had/have no camera; I'm just being dramatic, haha.

Since you have attempted to retrofit the camera, can you access the camera from the trunk area, without removing the bumper? My camera seems to have been pushed in slightly so the circle of the bumper cover is visible on the screen, narrowing the depth of field. My dealer says it not a warranty issue (eyeroll) and wants $650 to look at it. Any guidance would be appreciated. Mine is a 2020 F Type R.

I’m on my 3rd F-Type, going from a 2015 (no back-up camera) to a 2016 to a 2018. All of the back-up cameras have a wide angle lens unlike the lenses in my 2017 XE, 2016 XF, 2018 E-PACE and 2018 F-PACE. During daylight all of our Jags have adequate resolution. However, in low light conditions, resolution is noticeably grainy. With our V6 F-Types and center exhaust stack, in cool and cold weather, exhaust condensation obscures view from the rear lense. We’ve previously owned late model Audis, Bimmers, Lexus’ and Toyotas with superior back-up cameras but they too suffered from decreased resolution during low light conditions; however, not to the extend that Jag’s do.
I love back-up cameras and other parking sensors; having replaced the lower front spoiler on my 2015 F-Type a few times and backing into a passing vehicle when reversing out of a parking space in my 1974 Trans Am 455 many years ago. (As an aside, my 7.5 liter Trans Am engine only produced 250 hp.) My biggest gripe with all of the back-up cameras has been that their lenses easily become obscured by rain, dirt and salt in inclement weather. Only VW has the smarts to leave the lense hidden - and protected - behind the “VW” trunk lid handle until the transmission is placed in reverse; thereby, rendering a clean and clear lense when needed during inclement weather.

I have a courtesy F-Pace right now and the backup cam has a night mode which is really nice. It also points down/fisheyes so you can see the face of the bumper which is nice for tight spaces

Backup cam in my 2017 SVR is poor. And I have the quad exhausts on the sides. Grainy in poor light - and even in good light it's not clear and sharp. My 2010 XF is a lot better
Have had two separate dealers look and they say it's right and showed me other f types with similar picture quality.

I agree with Carbuff2. My Mazda CX 5's backup camera gets a lot of criticism for its poor resolution, but what is really too little ? You aren't trying to read a newspaper from 10 feet away with it.
The graininess under low light conditions is camera 101. I wonder if brighter LED backup bulbs could be fitted, that would certainly help. The backup lights on my Mazda light up the area like searchlights at Alcatraz, although the camera is still limited in resolution.

Despite much better light they didn't help the clarity of the reversing camera image.
You want P21W, heaps on Fleabay etc, and a doddle to change.
Edit - see post #6 - this only works for ROW reversing lights (those with separate globes for the reversing and fog lights) and is no good for NAS (USA & Canada) F-Types with the single lens rear lights coz they are already LEDs and are not replaceable.
