P 7 Bumper-less Grille Installed
#521
I have taken a long look time pondering how to install a tow hook with the P7 bumper and have found a machine shop that can carve an OEM hook (using the reverse threaded end )into accepting a billet track hook. If anyone has a spare OEM hook they can donate to the prototype project, please PM me.
I have been living on borrowed time traveling without a tow hook for the past 2+ years. With 2 major road trips coming up this year, I finally decided to take a more straight forward approach yielding the following result:

I now have some peace of mind.

also, looks like maybe a thinner hook would clear without having to drill/trim the surround. I have no issue cutting a piece of honeycomb, but would really like a solution that didn’t require cutting. If not, I may fabricate it and smooth it all out and then paint it.

well said - I am planning to do my p7 grille this summer, I am starting to consider options for the tow hook. I am happy to contribute with a donor hook or some cash to develop an elegant solution - if I work it out myself, I’ll post back.

If we can get a shorter bolt with the necessary thread pattern, this could be attached to front tow hook slot. Hoping it can fit between the P7 grill and the loop can sneak between the grill openings if we position it correctly. Would it be strong enough ?

The eye looks plenty strong, in that it looks like the hooks I've seen on other cars. It's what it bolts to that I'd worry about. The force is not in line with the threaded portion, so there would be a torque on the fastener. I haven't looked at the piece that the tow hook bolts to, but it may need reinforcement for that sort of force.

Back on topic - the P7 grille, not the tow hook!
An interesting new listing I just found on AliExpress:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000...archweb201603_
The ad says:"Package: front lip, rear diffuser, side skirts, front grill, air intake
Material: double side carbon fiber(pefect quality)
Fitment: fit for Jaguar F-type 5.0T (we have this for 3.9T also , if you need it , please just contact , thanks)
Instructions: not included"
US $250 for all of that, in carbon fibre, sounds waaay too good to be true!
And there are pics of the grille only, nothing else, so I suspect that low low price really is the grille only.
Especially as just above the previous wording it says:
"For 13-16 Jaguar F-type 5.0T carbon fiber bodykit front grill".
As for quality and fit, my guess is it would be a real crap shoot. And probably no easy way to mount parking sensors.
Who wants to be the first the try it????

I think what they mean is the grille is part of a full complete body kit. It's $3500+shipping, here's the link.

But $250 US for the grille might be worth a punt!
