For true DIYers, check out this material. That looks promising and is cheap, but of course the devil's in the details - the surround and the sensor mounts.

Gotcha from gg2684 picture itlooked like you may be able to access it. I love the way this grille looks and will probably give up tow hook access for it. Now if they made one with no growler I'd 100% be in but only the ebay ones do that and the mesh is a lot smaller.

Sounds like this mod may be dead then. Unless there’s a vendor making an alternative. From everything I’ve seen all of those alternatives haven’t ended up great.

If you are trying to make a switch from a center bar grill to a P& style grill, like I want to do, it seems to me that it should be easy for a DIYer to fabricate a grill, lot's of material to choose from. The problem is the surround AKA the frame. For those who haven't looked yet, the center bar grill surround has big notches cut out of it at each side that are filled by the center bar. Those notches won't look good without something filling them. This is probably well known by everyone else, but is news to me as I start this project.
I'm in the process of looking for a source for a "P7 style" surround. Anyone have a good source? I'd prefer the stock chrome finish, but would settle for black or carbon. Or, any ideas about attractive ways to fill those notches?
Once you have the surround you have to figure out if you want to notch the surround to allow access to the tow hook socket. Having had my car towed recently when the early generation clutch grenaded I'd probably make the notch.
BUT, I just learned that there is access through a little black cap on the left side rear bumper to a socket for a shipping tie down hook. Sadly the tie down supplied for use in front does not fit this socket. Does anyone know where/how to get one of those hooks for the rear or the thread spec for it? If we had that we would not need access to the front tie down socket.

Last resort I still have mine and could post it to you for free but dunno how much the postage cost would be.

What is it that makes this unfit for a tow onto a truck? Not trying to argue, just would like to know haw you are sure about this. My experience with cars I've owned has been that the tie downs they use for shipping are pretty beefy. They have to be to keep the car in place in a rough sea. Have you been able to look at the socket and see that it looks weak or something like that? Looks like it would take some doing to get a look at it. Did your dealer advise against it? Thanks again for the feedback!
