The pain o'F' separation
My F type is in the repair shop. The dealership gave me a shiny new LandRover Discovery as a loaner. It has reinforced what I instinctively knew about how awesome a working F type is.
One realization was unexpected. I am playing the radio in the landrover most of the time I drive it. I did not realize until then that I turn it off in the Jag, and I did not buy the car for it's sound ! Indeed. I thought I most admired the sound of the Tesla but turns out I was seduced like so many others (for me personally the V6 S is the perfect combination of notes).
I have a better view of the road in the LandRover, plenty of room for anything, automatic transmission for Boston city traffic, the same engine and many of the same controls as my F type. There is nothing wrong with the Landrover if that is what one likes. I don't, and I can't wait to get my impractical little car back - hopefully by the end of next week though it seems forever right now. Truly we appreciate what we lose, then again I appreciated it when I had it too.

My Range Rover has gathered a nice coating dust since I got the F Type. I just can't walk in the garage and not take the F Type.
I kept my XKR to 8900 miles in 3 years and a hit and run tow truck in my building ended its life with me. It ended up costing me 16k I can't recover due to repairs and diminished value my insurance company refuses to pay.
That being said life is too short and their are circumstances out of our control. Drive what you love and hope you get your F Type back soon!

Transmission failure, basically they are rebuilding the entire system from clutch to flywheel. Thankfully advice here directed the dealership to the problem, which seems to be a design flaw in the early manual drives. I only had the car three weeks but the bonding was immediate and strong. So was the failure that left me unable to shift out of neutral at a traffic light until I shut the car down and with difficulty was able to thereafter use the gearbox to get me to the dealer.
Somewhat ironic in a way as I almost bought the 2016 MX-5. however, the miata forums were alive with discussions regarding unexplained transmission failures with the manual gearbox and that put me off (not that I didn't want the F type but the miata is a seriously fun car to drive and I wanted a manual, something that hadn't been an F type option until recently)

Swell. So I might have that to look forward to also.
It was a "gift" from a prolific artist on alt.binaries.subgenius from my active days there. There were others, but that one makes the best avatar.

I drove a 1991 Miata for 4 1/2 months while my F-Type got fixed from a collision. It's seriously fun in a non-serious way, if you get my meaning. Even if you don't get my meaning, it's true. The problem is that I just don't quite fit properly in the car. The upcoming Fiat 124 Abarth would be seriously tempting if I could drive it while wearing a helmet.

I think you defined the fun of the Miata well. For me it makes city driving into an entertainment as you can take advantage of every Yard of opportunity. I hear the Fiat uses an established transmisson system so the Miata problem is not an issue (saying that, the vast majority of Miatas have been problem free). I would like to try the Fiat out but then might want it as well as the Miata - neither are practical as my two car garage is already filled with two cars, the TT being my "practical" driver.
