Paint coming off the "start/stop" button and "Park" button.
Talk about cheap finish, first my start button got all sticky, now the paint is coming off both buttons. Talked to a dealer and he tells me they will have to examine it before deciding if it's covered under warranty. That means several 100 mile roundtrips for me. Has anyone had their buttons replaced under warranty??

This has been discussed before, but not for quite a while - try searching.
Edit: Hmm, couldn't find anything via search. But I do recall some discussion of soft or sticky paint on either the start button or paddles...
Edit2: Hey, you started the previous thread! (But no one mentioned getting the button replaced.)

How many miles do you have on your car? After 17k miles, my buttons are like new. As F-typical has suggested, hand lotions, sunblock, etc. can all cause deterioration of various finishes over time.

When I got mine with approx 20,000 miles on it the P button was worn/faded on the LHS and it annoys me, but the start button is perfectly OK.
I still have 14 months warranty to go, what do you think my chances are of getting the P button renewed/replaced under warranty, or will JLR just say it's a "wear and tear" item?
Remembering I'm in Oz and who knows how warranty claims here work compared to US claims.

I bought a one day subscription to TOPix a couple of weeks ago and remember seeing a technical advisory on the park button paint issue.
JLR were asking dealers to look for evidence of chemicals being used to clean the interior (not sure how they would do this) as a potential cause. As mentioned above, I would think that hand lotions , etc, would be a more likely cause of paint softening.
Regardless, JLR are obviously aware of this as a widespread issue, so you should stick to your guns, and get them to replace under warranty.

I've only got about 13K miles on mine. I have only cleaned the button a couple times with a damp rag. I don't use anything on my hands and I'm the only one who drives it.
By way of contrast, my wife's Lexus has over 60K mile, is older and its start/stop button still looks new.
VERY disappointed with little cheap parts like these.

I had the sticky problem with several surfaces on my Mercedes in the South Florida climate. Same with a Chrysler. It took about a year to manifest itself. I have items here in the Bahamas (similar climate to Fl.), an expensive pair of Canon image stabilised binoculars for example. The rubber (or whatever it is) coating has degraded and can be scraped off with a finger nail. It's the heat and UV, I am convinced.
Conversely, the interiors of my cars in the UK remain in perfect condition; less heat and lower UV...
