Default Pantera Heads Up

Tonight at 9:00 Discovery (Driven) has a segment concerning Carroll Shelby's secret Pantera project.
I have no idea what it's about, I just saw it promoted.

Thanks for the alert. I know Shelby owned one - given to him personally by DeTomaso, but I wasn't aware of a project. It will be interesting to see.

Carroll Shelby's Pantera has been for sale for the last couple of years for $249,000 but hasn't sold. It's painted in the same color scheme as mine, red upper, black lower beltline like the Ferrari Boxer of the '70s. Shelby and De Tomaso briefly collaborated with Peter Brock to produce a race car called the P70 in the 1960s and when Shelby abruptly left the partnership, De Tomaso was so incensed, he named his next car, the Mangusta (Mongoose), the only natural predator of the Cobra. Only one P70 was produced, but the new company which owns the De Tomaso brand now, has a spectacular P70 inspired car called the P72, one of the sexiest automobiles ever made.https://www.google.com/search?q=carr...ERRMTsAyKaX0M:

Here's a link to the P72 followed by a pic of my Shelby look-alike Pantera.

I've seen pics of the P72 a couple times now, and it's drop dead gorgeous! Sounds amazing also, anybody know any specs on it?

tberg, your Pantera is awesome. Probably my all-time favorite car. I had a chance 30 years ago to buy one from a friends brother but my friend talked me into buying his 71 Corvette instead of his brothers Pantera. Probably worked out for the best but will always wonder how things might have been different if I bought the other car.

Another heads up, albeit after the fact.
Thursday night on Chasing Classic Cars was devoted entirely to the restoration of The Cars drummer's (David Robinson) Pantera.
I'm sure it's available "on demand" if anyone is interested.

fujicoupe,
It turns out the restoration was of a 1969 De Tomaso Mangusta, the spectacular looking predecessor to the Pantera. They were gorgeous, not very good driving car but one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Very rare, only 401 ever built with only about 250 left in existence. Decent examples are $400,000 cars now.
