Not sure if this feeling with go away, but having driven an F-type manual 6spd for 6 years, and now driving the automatic AWD R, I find myself reaching for the "manual" transmission knob and my left foot seems like dead weight....
It's only been a week with my 2019 F-type R, but I'm suffering from huge 6MT seller's remorse.... Using the shifting paddles on the R is only marginally scratching that itch. Clearly, this is all a first world problem....

Put it in Super and Dynamic and use the gear shift for gear changes.
my car fantasy is an auto that has a shifter like a proper manual, not that ridiculous forwardsy backwardsy thing. I'd still rather a clutch, but that'd be the next best thing.
but most likely my next car will not have any gears at all, if it is electric...
bb_sam,
Since I'm having surgery on my left leg this week, I won't be pushing the clutch pedal on my Pantera for a while. Hop on a plane to Los Angeles and you're welcome to exercise your dead pedal foot all you like. Yesterday, was a little warm for Pantera driving as it was 124*F in the San Fernando Valley where I live, but it's always there for the takin'.
Rob,
The offer's always open to you as well. A friend who contacted me through the Pantera forum about a year ago only to discover we were neighbors, sold his beautiful NSX two weeks ago, and promptly bought a red Pantera the next day. After riding in his Nissan GTR with him one day, I was thoroughly confused at how anyone could stand a GTR, and I really wondered how he could sell the NSX and keep the GTR. Honestly, in all of my over 50 years of driving hundreds of cars, I have never ridden in a worse piece of junk than the GTR, ever!

I appreciate that assuming I survive this Pandemic I may take you up on the offer as I've always wanted, but never had the opportunity before, to drive one. Until there is a vaccine I doubt I'll be getting on a plane, but this would give me something to look forward to. I appreciate the offer!
I have only owned one auto transmission car since 1971, which was a 1982 Camaro POS. Last year I retired and moved from a coastal California city to a small mountain community at 6000 ft elevation. My Nissan 370Z had to be replaced by something with AWD for the time we get some snow and some cargo capacity for those trips down the mountain for shopping so I bought a Mazda CX 5 with turbo and 6 speed AT. It took me a couple of weeks to know what to do with my left foot after driving manuals for decades. I sure miss that 370Z on the mountain roads and am looking forward to purchasing an F Type as a second vehicle.
I really wish that Jaguar would offer the V6 with a 6 speed manual and rear wheel drive again, and bump the power up to about 425 hp. That would be ideal.
Hey Dwight,
The next car up for its 3rd restoration of mine is my 1978 280Z 5spd that I've owned since new. Offer is open to you as well. Come back out to visit your old home state and give me a holler. The Pantera is a lot more fun.
Tberg, I'm still in California, in the mountains west of Palm Springs. I would love to test drive your Pantera. I have always admired them. I can remember late one night back in the 1980's being on the freeway and a yellow Pantera passed me like I was standing still and then cut across all lanes to take an offramp. I glanced in my rearview mirror and saw flashing lights gaining on me. It was a CHP in hot pursuit but he passed me and then probably realized that the Pantera had exited the freeway and made good his escape ! I always wondered who owned that yellow Pantera, there couldn't have been many around.
Dwight,
Come on up, anytime. When I restored/modified it a couple of years ago, we shoehorned in a built, and stroked 351 C, so it's up in horsepower from the original 300 to somewhere north of 500. But frankly, even at the lower horsepower, it never felt slow, as you're so low to the ground that it feels like a go cart on steroids. And the noise!!! is incredible. Look forward to seeing you soon.

Dwight, stop by the Nation's Capital sometime and see what it's like to drive an MT F-Type with about 450hp. That's what Jag should have built from the get-go. They'd still be building MTs since they wouldn't have lost as many enthusiast sales to the AT Rs. The power/weight ratio on my car is about the same as that advertised for the '14 V8S.(and it's as light as the P300).

Unhingd speaketh the truth. I’ve got a V8S from 2014 and after many spirited drives in MD, PA and Maine that I have had with Unhingd alongside I can say with certainty his car is a beast and every bit a performance equal to my V8 and likely corners even better.
Maybe a little humor will help. Many years ago I bought a small boat. I was new to driving a boat which has no pedals at all, just a throttle lever at my right hand and a steering wheel. On one of my early outings, I was up on plane, skimming across the lake about 40mph or so, not real fast, but fast enough to do some damage. I spotted a jet ski about to cross my bow and........ instinctively I picked up my foot and stomped on the floor where a brake pedal should have been.....TWICE! Luckily we didn't collide as it took me literally a few seconds to realize, oh yeah, this isn't a car, I'm supposed to pull back on the throttle. My buddy was laughing uncontrollably at my mistake despite that he nearly died. Looking back, I suppose it was pretty comical. At least if you're driving alone, nobody can see you pretending to shift gears.
I think I might be cured. I've now had the V8 for nearly 2 weeks. I gotta say that the paddle shifters (in sport / dynamic mode) are really responsive and have scratched that itch of being able to downshift too. The exhaust note from the car is insane and the added features of the 2019 MY (ie Apple CarPlay) are massive improvements.
Having said all this -- and if I can hijack my own thread -- the soon to be revealed (Sept 16) Nissan 400Z manual transmission could cause me to regress and jump ship from Jaguar entirely
I had a 2009 Nissan 370Z with a 6 speed manual that I bought new. It was a lot of fun to drive and on Michelin Pilot Sport tires cornered like it was on rails. The clutch was crap though and it had the issue of going into limp mode if really pushed from overheating the oil as it didn't have an oil cooler. It had 337 HP and I always thought that an extra 50 HP would have really been great.
If Nissan addresses the clutch issues and oil temp issues and the new Z really is close to 400 HP it will be an impressive car. Oh, and ditches the horrible half leather, half Alcantara interior. I hate Alcantara. Especially if it is priced under $60K
But I'm still going to buy a new F Type.
