Picture this:
I am on my way home from the office yesterday, its about 5PM. I am about to get on the I10 going west bound when I notice that the CHP has the east bound ramp closed here at the cook st on ramp. But the west bound ramp is open. That is the way I am heading. I look to see if the freeway is backed up and it don't see a car on the road. Not believing what I just saw, I come around the corner of the on ramp and I see, 4 lanes of open freeway not a car in front of me for about 6 miles. The freeway is closed just east of me and the Cook st ramp is the first ramp open from the closure. So what do I do? I hit the go fast switch and put it in manual mode and well, lets just say if there was any carbon starting to build up in the engine it is gone now. It had been a rough day, the car gods just so happen to smile on me that day.

other side and blocked the left lane in our direction... ... I kept exactly to the 60kmh speedlimit [ imposed for the works..] for about 20kms, so I was ahead of a traffic jam... ..
But then, glorious... ..an empty road for about 15 minutes, more then enough to floor the throttle and see how far we got... 249kmh the limiter cut the engine... ..
We never had a change to really repeat it as the German highways are generally quit full nowadays. But soon we go for a trip, who know...
But I recognise your sensation : ".. this-can-not-be-true.." ...

I heard latter on the news the road had been closed because a car had hit a pole and it fell across the freeway. Glad it was before I needed to get on.
