Default Pilot Super Sport on backorder? Which Spec of PSS are people using?

After 5K miles and 2.5 track days, my P-Zeros finally called it quits. I was going to make the switch to the Super Sports, but they seems to be on back order. Also, there is apparently different versions??

I'm in Socal and I'm looking for 305/30/r20s (prefered) or 295/30/r20 for the rear.

1. Which compound /spec are people using? Apparently, there's a BMW spec version which has a 1/4 wider tread than the standard spec version??

2. Where can I get them ASAP and not break the bank?

Literally just got the PSS installed on my XF yesterday. I bought them from america's tire, they are having a good deal right now, $50 mail-in rebate and a $70 visa giftcard.

Last I checked they were all out of my rear sizes. Estimated availability is in March.

Default Bridgestone RE070?

Tire Rack had some Bridgestone RE070s on sale for $275 each, so I ordered a pair of them for the rear as burner tire for now. I figure it's not a lot of money, so I'll test them out. I'll probably track them and use them to play with different settings and pressures. I'm still running my stock Pirellis in front since they still have some bite left. (I know, I know, not ideal.)

I'm sure I'll end up switching all four to the PSS as soon as they come off back order, and by then I'll be done tracking this car since I'm getting a Z07 for the track.

order them now, so you are on the list, you will get them sooner then they show now. iIalways have a full set in my garage and order another set when that one gets mounted.

Are them being on backorder really that common? I ran PSS for a few years on the car I had before the F-Type and never had a problem finding them. Is it just the size some of the cars have that's less common?

Think it's the 20" sizes that may be an issue. Had no trouble getting 19" last year from Tire Rack, and I think it's always the 20" sizes that are mentioned in these threads.

This has been the case since September last year. I picked up a pair in October I think, and I had to pay a premium to get them.
I'm ok with the p zeros though, so I haven't put the Michelin on my '16 yet, they're just sitting in storage for future use.
Ninja edit: pm me if interested in buying. Full disclosure: since I'll have to buy them again in the future, I probably can't give you a good deal.

Yeah, I think it's the size. Anyways, I got the Bridgestone RE070 for now. I figure I bought myself another 5K miles to worry about it.

The PSS came back in stock on Tirerack, ordered and they delivered them in 2 days. Just got them installed today. Out the door price for everything was $1575. :/

Just for reference, my Pzero's lasted 11,500 miles. Rears were just below 2/32 and fronts were around 5/32.

I want to try the PSS's so bad but my fronts have so much life on them & I don't want different make tires on the car. I guess I'll just wait until the fronts are ready to be replaced. Gonna buy a pair of P Zeros for the rear in a few weeks ...oh well.

I just got the stock sizes for PSS from a local place (Tucker Tire) $1480 installed. Weird part is they said my tires were worn in the front passenger/rear driver positions and better in the other two. Hoping to be able to put them back on for the lease inspection.

yes, mine are 305s on 20s on both cars .... and if you have uneven tire wear it is time to have your alignment checked ...

Got the tires broken in and did some canyon driving. Like them a lot more than the pzero's. Much grippier, felt more confident putting down the power. Ride a bit more harsh though and road noise is about the same.

How do you like the 305's vrs. the 295's.. notice anything different in drive-ability? I realize the PSS is the best tire as I had them on my XKR, so my question is more around the size difference.

A friend of mine has an AMG and moved up a tire size and it causes handling problems.

Did you also upsize the fronts.?
