Default Polishing exterior

New owner with a my16 f type s, panoranic glass roof. I have a professional car detailer scheduled to polish my jaguar. It will be washed by me and then he will clean, clay, apply polish and sealer. How does he, me in the future, apply polish to the glass roof area, or this area avoided at all costs. What does one use to clean glass roof?
I rely on your expertise to guide me, thanks

You treat the roof area in exactly the same way that you treat the paint: a good carnauba wax.

Ok thanks for your quick response, then am I to assume that a professional should only clay bar the painted areas and leave the roof alone

Clay barring the roof will do no damage and will prepare the surface for wax...a good wax like Victoria Wax (not a wax with abrasive in it -those are call " cleaner waxes" ).

Thank you, as a new owner who never had a glass roof I wanted to be very careful with clay bar and polish/sealant
Thanks

I had mine ceramic coated with the rest of the car. I wash and then use GLIPTONE GLASS CLEANER.

I cleaned mine with rainex paste and then put the rainex stuff on it, water flies off.

Do you really drive in rainstorms looking through the roof?

I actually do! It is really pretty looking through the roof sometimes, we get hot air balloons overhead on my way into work.

But I also keep one eye on the road...

If you want the best possible finish on glass, you can clay bar it, use CarPro Eraser, and then a ceramic coating Overkill for most people, but if you're into detailing, the only way to go. After the ceramic coating, maintain with P&S Bead Maker.

I too will look through the roof, primarily to keep an eye out for bear in the air, but they typically don’t fly in rainy IFR (low visibility) conditions.

The roof is glass. I treat it like other glass, not like paint. I don't use wax on my windshield, so would not use it on the roof. I got some glass coat stuff, similar to Rain-X, that is from the same manufacturer as the stuff I use on my rims. Too tired to look it up tonight. I'd have to go out to the garage and dig through my detailing bins.

.
Right. It is glass, so I treat it just as I do the other glass on the car, especially the windshield - which means using carnauba wax on it. Water beads right off, no smearing, wipers work just fine when needed (which is rarely) and the glass is crystal clear. No need for an expensive substitute.

Interesting. I treat it as glass and don't use carnauba, you treat it as glass and do.

Carnauba isn't going to hurt glass in anyway so waxing is perfectly fine. It will attract dust though.

Edit: I did a bit of testing one day to see how much more dust a wax attracts vs. a coating. Take a look below at the red box. You can see a pretty clear indication of where the wax stops and where the coating starts.

I wasn't suggesting harm to the glass, just quality of results. If anyone is happy with what they're doing, I suggest they keep at it. The high-tech glass coating was not cheap, but the amount used is quite small. I got a pack of it and the matching wheel coating, and based on my purchase date and how much I have left, I'd say it's a few dollars per year. I think the price has gone up since 2015, but won't need to replace it until 2023 or so.

Anyone who got a bottle of the Prep’N’Polish on one of the Lobster or Blueberry Runs should try it on the glass. Designed to work on Monitors and touchscreen displays as well. Minimizes finger smudging.

It’s also a non-dairy floor wax...
