The pedal was just a little soft. Not like going to the floor, in which case I know I would've had air in the line. Maybe I have gotten used to the feeling or with driving the last few days it has gotten firmer. It's not an issue for me now though. I never just sat and pumped the pedal though.

Also, see posts 31 & 39 in this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...brakes-182088/
I also found that the initial pedal travel was a lot softer than previously and I also suspected I might have left just a little bit of air in one of the rear brake lines.
But I never had the obvious symptom of lots of air in the brake line(s), that is the pedal going to the floor, and pumping the pedal makes no difference at all. Also once I get on the brakes there is plenty of stopping power, at least as much as before. I now believe it's just the way these Porterfield R4S pads are, and I'm more and more liking the new softer initial feel.

We only had them on super duper pricing for a short time. Our margins are not huge on these so it was just an initial launch special.

If you enter coupon code JAGFORUMS at checkout you still get 10% off, only 8% difference

Yup. Just bought some. Was a few days late. Wish I knew about the jag forums discount. Would have covered the shipping.

UPDATE: Well, after quite the spirited 100+ mile drive with @SillyPuppy and @speedski, I can honestly say the new pads are light years better than the OEM pads in terms of dust. I didn't notice any issues with hard braking - slowing/stopping power seemed like before to this novice.

Previously my shiny black wheels turned matte black just by looking at them. To have this much shine after a trip like that is very cool.

Greggbhill, thanks for the review. I ordered front pads last week and am really looking forward to having clean satin aluminum wheels.

Bret, you won't regret it. I just washed my car yesterday for the first time in THREE weeks. I wanted to see how long it would take for my rims to get even remotely close to how the OEM pads had them looking in THREE days! They didn't even come close. My car is not a daily but within those three weeks I did drive it quite a bit especially this past week. And it made cleaning my rims that much less time consuming as well! Great investment

There was quite a bit of brake dust on my stock brakes after the 100+ miles of driving behind Gregg. It's amazing there is so little dust on Gregg's!

I received my pads today and I have to admit that I'm not impressed. What I received were four pads in a large box. There was no retail packaging or documentation. I've purchased pad sets that didn't cost $20 for economy cars and they all had better presentation.

Now if the pads work, the packaging doesn't matter. However, what I noticed next really has me concerned. The cuts across the center of the pads look to have be done by a blind person. Not only are they not straight, they're not even perpendicular to the surface of the pad. I hope that what I'm seeing isn't indicative of the overall quality.

Is this what everyone else has received? If so, I'd feel much better knowing that everyone seems to have had great success so far.

I'm surprised by the packaging, these should arrive in Porterfield branded boxes. Wondering if it was repacked by UPS or something.

Will check with Porterfield.

It was definitely not repackaged by UPS. There's a sticker on the side of the box that reads "AP 1750" over "R4-S". The shipping label looks original too.

So, apparently the issue is that the Jag pads are relatively new and don't fit in the largest Porterfield Blue box that 99% of their pads fit in.

I'm guessing this might be addressed at a later date but for now they are 'brown box' shipping.

Passed on the feedback about them being a little loose inside the box.

I personally couldn't give a crap about the packaging. Not a gift . As long as they do the job and significantly less dust and I'll be happy.

When I received mine, I opened the box out of curiosity; they looked like brake pads to me, so back into box they went and were handed to my mechanic when I dropped off car. he didn't mention anything when I picked up the car - if he thought they were not up to par in any way he would have called before installing. my primary reason for ordering was dust reduction - so I think they are awesome. My order of the largest pads for an F-Type R arrived in a Porterfield branded box, so this sounds like a made-up story.

My pads came last night. The rears came in a real blue box with white and red printing. The front pads came just like Bret Ts did. The spring clips on all the pads were bent to some degree from bouncing around in the box loose but were easily straightened out.

Not packed the way I would have expected for a premium part.

RGPV6S, are the cuts across your pads straight or do they look like they were cut by hand like the ones I received?

They look just like yours. If you look at the cut from the side of the pad (pad down to backer) the depth varies from pad to pad slightly and its at an angle that also varies. I don't think they will affect the performance of the pads though.

BTW the rear pads have the vent slots cut at an angle too.

Bottom line is if they work as advertised I don't care that much about the packaging or cosmetics.
