Proud new Jag owner
Bought a 2018 F-Type R this week. found it on a lot in sarasota with 11K miles on it and made a deal. the car was a 1 owner from michigan (if you owned the car before be sure i will take good care of it). it is being shipped next week hopefully so i am pretty excited.
we are recent empty nesters and a few years ago i decided to build a custom sprinter van. spent a couple years doing it and eventually since i work at home and rarely drive i sold my car to make room on the driveway. i don't need to drive much but when i do my daily driver weights 9000 lbs i had been planning to buy a c8 but you know how that is going so rather than wait i kept looking for some bucket list car that i could buy for a couple years. recently came across a 2007 aston martin vantage which i have always thought was gorgeous but i got cold feet since we don't have an aston dealer in town and it is a 14 year old car. but that reminded me that i always liked the look of the jags. i did a little research and realized the ian callum connection. then i realized that this R has quite an engine in it as well and i was sold.
I am reading up a little on jag's cool history and watching videos of what people are doing to their f-types. i definitely plan to vinyl wrap the ground effects black along with the jag emblems. i am surprised how big a difference it makes to the look when the rocker panel skirts are black. it sounds like i am going to want to do a little something to the stereo.
so looking forward to hanging out here!

Welcome and congratulations! Let the love affair with the Ftype begin. Callum knocked it out of the park 7-8 years ago with this design and for those of us who have had them for many of those years I can safely say they never age in our eyes….come to think of it even today I had someone tell me they thought it was brand new! Have fun.

Disadvantage of the C8 - They are everywhere and you'll see another every time you drive.
Advantage of the C8 - They are everywhere and there is a huge aftermarket for them.
When I picked up my R, I was seconds from pulling the trigger on an Audi S5. I had also considered a Maserati Granturismo, a Camaro ZL1 and a couple of other cars. The thing about the Jag was it was just so damn sexy every time I saw one. I disticly remember the first time I saw one at a traffic light. I actually took a picture of it. Now, years later, I still love the looks and thanks to the limited aftermarket support, I've done very little to the car. It's rare enough that I don't have this huge need to personalize it much.

Well, the biggest disadvantage to the C8 is that it is even uglier and more awkward looking than photos show (somehow, images of the Aztek come to mind). In contrast, the F-Type is even more beautiful in reality than in photos...and in photos it is spectacular.

Indeed, of course 0-60 and quarter mile times can be compared, but there still is the issue of driver error etc. which can skew those in favor of a lesser performing car. Also, no matter what you have, someone always has more power. I get people in 150hp cars rolling up on the f-type like we’re going to race and there are plenty of 911’s and Ferrari’s around here and I’ve never seen one of them trying to street race - most of the vette guys are an older crowd basically cruising. There aren’t a whole lot of cars that the f-type can’t “handle”, but for those situations, it’s always good to have an alternate vehicle for peeling blacktop against basically anything.
