Default Lower Pulley Color Help

Anyone know if 2017 SVRs have a silver or black pulley? Looking to purchase the VAP upgrade, but cannot seem to get a good look at the OEM lower pulley. Thanks

I’m also wondering what the crank pulley color on a 2016 f type V6 S is. Thanks.

The crank pulley is very hard to see from the top and much easier from the bottom.
Which means jacking the front end up and removing 367 bolts (well according to Lance!) to take the front under-tray off, then you can shine a torch up there and eyeball the crank pulley.

My 17 R has/had a black pulley...likely the same for you, as they have the same engine. I was lazy, and used an endoscope with a laptop. It is installed now, so I know it was correct!

Otherwise, you will need to jack it up and look from bottom.

Good luck.

From an earlier post from Stuart, 13-16 have silver, 16+ have black. But it depends on your VIN and if your engine has been replaced.

The VIN break is around Q3 2016, with pretty much any 2016-on crate replacement engine having the later black OEM crank pulley.
You can also see it from above, but requires some manuvering on top of the engine (remove that engine cover!)

For my 2016 V6S I was able to get a good enough picture sticking my cell phone as low as I could reasonably reach and sent that to Stuart. He identified it as "silver" and the kit I got fit perfectly. Because it was a chore to do the work I'd get confirmation first. Mine looks just like the pictures Lance posted, as expected given the production dates of our cars.

Can you confirm that Stuart said that yours is black? This is exactly what mine looked liked and he said it was the black version.

The color isn’t always so visible when you’re snaking your phone down in front of the engine, but I think the giveaway is the extra holes on the black version as in your picture. The silver version as posted by Unhingd only has the six holes for the bolts and none of the extra ones in the periphery.

In addition, I was able to visualize my part number which is 9w83-6316-EA, while the silver one posted by Unhingd is 9w83-6316-BA. I couldn’t find any official catalog from Jaguar showing this but a google search shows that these different numbers correlate with the different colors on eBay ads, etc.

I have a 2016 V6S manual transmission and my VIN last 5 are 28906. My pulley is black if that helps others.

I messaged Stuart at VAP if he can distinguish pulley color by vin. Hopefully he responds so I can purchase the ecu pulley combo. ‘15 v8R if anyone knows.

They can’t identify it by VIN. They use the VIN for the belt length. You have to visualize it yourself. Ultimately, I tied a string to my cell phone case and lowered it down in front of the pulley while recording video to visualize it. It’s the only way I could get a good look without taking things apart.

Thanks for the idea dashawshot,I lowered my phone in dangling by the charging cable (risky, i know, lol) and managed to snap these pics. Fairly certain I have the silver pulley as I can confirm from the 2nd pic the part number is also 9w83-6316-BA.

Yep, my OEM pulley which I am looking at as I type is a silvery colour with 9W83 - 6316 - BA AAYKA 275 14 B 344 inscribed on it.

Has anyone researched why the OEM pulley has a rubber insert? If this is a harmonic balancer then fitting a solid pulley could cause long term damage?

Getting a look at that pulley is very annoying from the top of the engine bay. Too small for a mirror. I taped my cell phone to the extension mirror and took a movie while barely squeezing it in front of the pulley. My 2016 V6S is black, here is a screen shot of the a movie I took.

Does anyone one know why there are different pulleys? Did Jag change suppliers and it is kind of random if an engine got a particular pulley?
