I wouldn't rest my hand there because if you accidentally push the shifter forward in Drive, it will shift into Neutral without you pushing the trigger. At speed. I consider this to be a design flaw.
And never try to get road head for the same reason.

.....and you can't get it back into D without stepping on the brake. This not good while on the highway.
You just hold down the gear shift button and put it back into Drive- Can be done without braking
Yep, I tested this an hour ago, just before you posted, and that's how it works, no need to touch the brake.
But I also believe (but didn't test) that if your speed drops below 5 mph or thereabouts you do need to hit the brake pedal to shift from N to D.
