The difference is apparently solely software - the engines are mechanically identical. With that said, the R coupe isn't markedly faster than the V8S - it's not going to be massively noticeable. I've genuinely never been driving the V8S and thought to myself, "you know, the one thing this car needs is another 50 hp".... And when the top down, it sure feels faster (and louder) than driving in a hardtop.

That's because you have not experienced 550HP or even 600HP. If you had you would love that little bit extra. It does make a difference.
I have a little over 600HP in my 997 Turbo S. It is markedly quicker than the V8S. Do I wish the V8 S came with the 550HP the R does, oh hell yea!

If you are a pilot, which I am guessing, you can never have too much power! (Well within reason of course)

Someone on here modded their engine, changing the supercharger pulley and the software.

My understanding was that the engines are the same - other than those two things. Not sure if that is true (stronger rods, etc, could be hugely relevant).

my daily driver is highly modded e55 with 539rwhp, my last 2 seater supercharged z06 with methanol injection running over 640 rwhp... car was a blast to drive i just didn't like the interior , i just like having more power than i need , i like the power on the v8s just always want a bit more from a stock car... I've had it less than 2 weeks and still breaking it in , hope to drive the snot out of it soon. was getting a bit curious about a tune and or a tune and pulley upgrade

Walt, your Turbo S has a lot more torque across the full range of RPM. You'll only "feel"* 600hp at full throttle and peak rpm.

*What you feel in your aircraft is not the SHP of the engines, but the thrust. In the same way, you can only feel the torque (as multiplied by the transmission) as this is what the engine in the Turbo S actually makes. Put simply: In a car, BHP is (potential) top speed; Torque is how quickly you get there.

I agree with everything you said and you are correct that torque is what you are feeling. I was referencing HP because the poster mentioned HP. For some it's an easier standard to understand than saying I sure wish I had an additional 100 LB.Ft

I'm sure your tires feel differently...

No doubt the tires take a beating, but oh the torque! I think when you start getting into the performance range that these cars are in all wheel drive starts to make a lot of sense. I know it adds weight but especially in 1st and 2nd gear at WOT the AWD makes huge difference hooking up.

Wonder if we will see an AWD option in the future as the F Type gets even more powerful.

I did a factory tour on Monday. We were shown a set of wheels linked by a tube spine chassis. This was apparently a tool being used to assess changes required to the line for an AWD version.

We shall see...
