Default Rattle Behind Driver/Trunk Area (Not parcel shelf)

Hi guys,

after getting my car back from the dealer for a battery depletion issue (software update) my car has developed an annoying rattle behind the driver or in the trunk area. It sounds like shaking and metal on glass or plastic on metal. Doesn’t make a difference with or without the cargo cover in place. I checked the battery and there’s a very small amount of play (like 1cm) if i shake it REALLY REALLY hard but that seems unlikely and more of a thunk and not the higher pitched rattle I’m hearing. It happens over bumps and when driving around town but is virtually non existent on the highway. I also tried taking out the tow hook and tire kit and no dice.

I’m lost here and the dealer can’t see me for a week.

thanks

Whatever the problem, the battery hasn't been put back properly. There should be zero play.

unfortunately it seems as if that entire section of foam with the tire sealant and locking nut holder is ripped off lol but I checked to see if the locking fell and is rolling around down there

good to know thanks I’ll see if I can tighten it down a tad more or something to eliminate the minimal play that’s there

A more apt description of my sound is like ceramic bowls/plates on top of each other and rattling/jangling around on each other after driving over a bump

Get the car up on a lift and poke around. Sounds like a loose bracket or plate. Maybe heat shield or exhaust support.
