This is something I've been meaning to get to. The image quality from the rear camera is poor - faded and blurry. I bit difficult to capture in a picture, but I tried (below). Has anyone else dealt with this issue? Before you advise cleaning/buffing the lense - I already tried . I'm wondering if I need to just bite the bullet and go buy a new one from the ***********.
I don't have a rear view camera, so I added an $80 1080P mirror displayed rear camera, which also has a front facing camera for a 340 degree display. You can select camera displays by swiping sideways, and you can pan the cameras up and down by swiping up and down. It works amazing and shows almost a straight down view as you back up, if needed. You can also playback recorded video on the mirror, as it records the last 24 hours of driving before over-wiriting the 32GB MicroSD card. It took about an hour to install and hide the wires. Highly recommended, but I would get one with a splitter mounted front camera if I could do it again. There are probably hundreds of options on Amazon.
Mine is the same, since day 1 the backup camera has been lousy. i have got heat from the forums "you didn't buy it for the camera" or "3rd world problems"...but it is a lacking and almost useless because of this shortfall. i compare it to the 08 Superduty i used to daily, but its 8 years newer and double the $$$. i guess my mirrors work fine in the meanwhile.
Hmm. Sounds pretty cool. I'll look into that for sure. I'm guessing better functionality and picture quality than stock and probably cheaper.
Cheers!
Hope you have good eyesight. My folks’ Mercury has a rear camera display in the rear view mirror; I wear bifocals, and while I can see the mirror image fine, I would need to tilt my head way back to see the camera image through the bottom of my glasses. Doesn’t happen, but the visibility is fine in that car. YMMV.
Not quite the same on my MY2015.
Nice and clear in the day time but horribly blurry and fuzzy at night, no idea why.
Only time mine ever got fuzzy was on cold start-up and exhaust vapor would condense on the lens. Doesn’t happen anymore since I converted from the dual to the quad exhaust.
Wonder if condensation got inside the foggy ones, or maybe ceramic coating got on the lens (for those with coatings)? Don’t have cameras on the F-type, but on other cars, the only time the image looks like that is when the lens is wet, or salt dries on it in the winter.
My 14 V8S camera works fine. At night the image is grainy, but still usable for it's purpose.
Hmm. Good feedback, thanks. You can see from the image I posted, its not dark. Nonetheless, the image is hazy. It's only an issue because when I'm parking I can't clearly make out objects that I'm approaching. Based on what you've said, I'll need to take it to the dealer and see what they recommend (charge) me. Thanks to everyone who has provided valuable feedback on this post!
I agree that camera quality isn't high definition and could even be limited by display resolution.
It's pretty poor at night.
That said when it's day the camera on my
MY 16 doesn't seem as poor quality as OP Seems ok to me during daytime, image when it's dark could be a lot better
