Turn the setting off for a couple drive cycles, then turn it back on?

Can't you adjust how far down it points? Perhaps that part of the setting isn't correct.

I believe that when it is dipped you can adjust the dip position. Try adjusting the mirror while you’re in reverse - perhaps the current dip position is similar to the regular position.

Depending on the MY the car may, or may not, remember the setting if you adjust the mirror while in reverse. My MY18 won't remember it which is annoying since mine dips too far for my taste so is basically unusable for me.

Same here, and I've brought it up with the dealer a couple times; they have no idea whether it should be adjustable or why it isn't. The manual indicates that it is possible to change the amount of dip and store that setting, but I've never been able to effect that. My 2013 XF worked the proper way and i can't understand why Jag would have regressed from that option.
Like you I find the dip to be too drastic to be usable.

Ah, my manual (MY18) explicitly states "in R the door mirror can be adjusted but the new position cannot be saved." Best I've managed is to store a dipped position in memory 3, but it's a bit of a faff to bother to use it.

And like your XF, my 2010 XKR behaved as you'd want and was really useful.

Correct. The auto dip only affects the passenger side.

Frustrating indeed, as is the fact that the dashed lines in the backup camera are sporatic. Anyway here's a pic of the relevant page from my manual. MY2018

It is unfortunate that you’re Line issues are sporadic. That will make it very difficult to diagnose. I’ve never had a problem with both the solid and dashed lines appearing.
