Default Remedy (or Tricks) For Wheel Rash?

Well, call it a week of firsts. First week of the New Year - under superb driving conditions by the way - and got my first windshield rock chip (which promptly got "injected" to prevent spreading; and one can barely notice any chip at all) and yesterday I ever-so-slightly "curbed" drivers side rear [propeller] wheel.

Damn cobble-stone streets - on a super narrow one at that - and a curb which jutted out exactly where I was jutting in.

There are 5 minuscule spots which I am very inclined to simply leave alone. I drove by a friend who owns a body shop and he applied a small amount of some "Mothers" brand compound to the wheel merely to clean up the small spots, and he too suggested leaving them alone.

I was wondering if there are any quick and easy fixes any Forum member has found. I checked other threads and came across several but thought I'd ask you F-Typers.

Thanks!

Typically, most auto detailers can take care of them (similar to fixing up your body paint) depending on how deep the damage is.... I've seen them onsite fixing up used car wheels for dealerships and they end up looking brand new.

Not to worry, RJ. Google "wheel repair" for your area. Minor damage like that is about a $100 repair on aluminum wheels. It involves sanding down the gouges and a little touch-up spray paint, which will perfectly match the silver painted propellers. It will take less than an hour, most of which is putting a heat gun on the freshly painted area to cure the paint. You won't even be able to tell where the damage was when they finish.

If you can't find a wheel repair expert in your area, your dealer will certainly know one.

agree with Foosh and Mahjik, it's almost certain that the wheels can be brought back to as new condition very cheaply. I've seen some incredible results from local repair shops here. We've all done the same thing, RJ, so don't feel too bad!!

Thank you gentlemen!

Yeah, certainly not anything to sweat over as its kinda gonna happen sooner or later (although I rarely do; this particular curb - on a cobblestone street...lovely to look but awful to drive on - just barely bit me).

And thanks Foosh...I did Google "wheel repair" and read a few remedies. My rash is so minor I didn't want to go the "full" route of taking the tire off (I assume that that's what's called for?) and might just live with it. I thought that - without sacrificing quality - that I could gently and carefully brush (more like a dab) some silver touch up paint and then coat with some clear...whatever?

Again, damage is so minor I can live with it,

Thanks again!

Default Curb Rash

If you are handy, which I am not, you can get matching wheel touch up paint for your particular wheel from your Jag Dealer. I tried touching rash up myself and it looked worse.

For curb rash I have used Alloy Wheel Repair Specialist. They are a nationwide franchise and they are mobile. The guy down here can make curb rash disappear completely. They come to you and they charge about $100 per wheel. Normally they can do it on the car if it is not bad.

Here is their site. Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists Franchise Locations
Go to locations and see if there is one nearby.

Yes, I have used the local franchise for some quite significant damage on other wheels. I had a gouge in one of them (caused by a valet I think) and could not even see where it had been after the repair.

True, for minor rash. Generally, they simply let air out of the tire and leave it on the rim. They can then push in the bead, and mask-off the tire, preventing overspray.

Thanks all; gentlemen and lady.

I checked and there is an Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists serving Southern Maine and will get in touch with him...once the 8+ inches of snow which fell last night are gone.

And to think; I had the F-Type out and about all day yesterday under sunny and clear skies. January 3.

Best regards,
Jay

It is currently 86 here but that is unusual at this time of year. Broke a record.

Will be cooler later in the week - mid 60s. Sorry I could not help myself

Having owned a lot of Audis I'm very experienced with wheel rash, hard to find one without it. My service dept. gave me their guys number and I have used him since. Most times doesn't need to take tire off or even remove wheel. $75-$100 depending on damage.

I had a bit on my Audi that I got fixed before selling. In LA almost everyone recommends the same guy, Son Tran. Most repairs can be done with the wheel on. Cost me $80 for one wheel. Looked like new when done. Took less than an hour.
