I am new to this forum. I just bought a 2018 F-Type R. It has the black exterior package option and I am trying to black out few more pieces on the back that are chrome. I have already painted the exhaust tip black, darken the tail lights, removed the "F-Type" & "Jaguar", however, can't remove the "R" badge to paint it black. I have used fishing line and loosen all the sticky adhesive but it looks like something is holding it from inside the bumper.
I have searched the forum and can't find info specific to the "R" badge. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
looks great!
I’m curious about the paint and process used... paint brand/spec? Remove tips or paint in place?
The process is a little time consuming but not difficult at all. I paint them on the car. This is the 3rd car I have painted the exhaust on. Here are the steps:
· -Scuff the exhaust tips with 2000 grit sand paper, spray clean with alcohol and wipe with microfiber cloth
· -Using painters blue tape, cover around the exhaust opening, then cover the rear of the car with news paper or plastic
· -Spray 2 coats of Rust-Oleom High Heat Primer (follow instructions on label)
· -Spray 3 coats of Rust-Oleom High Heat black paint (it comes in gloss black or flat. I prefer flat)
· -Follow baking instruction on the label
The Jag took me longer than my AMG GTS or the DB11 because there are 4 pipes and the openings around the pipes are bigger. Figure about 3-4 hours which is mostly prep time to cover the car. Here is an image of the rear.
Would this apply to the exhausts on the V6? How do you think it would look? Can't seem to find pictures of black exhausts on a V6 F type
I would say yes since the exhaust tips are probably of similar material. As for how it will look, I personally don't like chrome on my cars, but that is just a personal preference. I think it will look good on your V6 with center exhaust.

The V6 tips are polished aluminium rather than chrome.

You sure about that Lance?
I always thought they were polished stainless steel.
Either way they are definitely not chrome plated but then again N4SPEED is obviously talking about the bright shiny "chrome" look regardless of the actual metal used.

You could be right. I just know that they are definitely not chrome. Actually makes more sense that they would be stainless as they are welded to the stainless pipes.

Good point, I am not sure what the actual materials are. I have however, painted 3 different cars' exhaust tips and have not had any issues with paint flaking/peeling. I had mt AMG for 18 months and washed it regularly in drive through car wash with no problem, same with the DB11.
