My apologies.
The great news is that I found you and now have some guidance.
I'll have a good look at the weekend.
My intention is to get the old one off, plug in the new one to see if it then works, take the old one apart and if that's simple take the new one apart to use the already painted cover.
We'll see!
Car is a 2016 F-Type R AWD coupe with lots of extras.
Tools I used:
T6 & T8 driver,
10mm socket,
75mm extention,
Flat Blade Screwdriver,
Piece of rubber sheet.
Bought new part
Cost £85 net.
Open boot and remove plastic covers from both sides near leading edge
Not the best pic!
Undo the 6x 10mm nuts, 2 each side and two on the leading edge (short extension needed for those 2)
Pry up edges carefully and using flat head screwdriver (with rubber to protect) pop out the four retaining clips (2 each side)
Panel is now free.
Unplug the wiring. Pull up the white clip on each plug until it clicks then remove from socket. Need to rotate plugs to do this.
Unit is now free. Undo two 10mm nuts holding antenna pod to panel, squeeze black retaining clip to release.
Replacement is the reverse of above.
I went slightly further as the new part comes unpainted.
I removed the PCB from the new one (8x T8 screws) and fitted it into the old housing.
New one did not have the rubber bit on the top of the board so removed it from old one and used it again.
You can see where water has affected the board in places (right hand board above and below).
Couldn't resist looking at the other side of the board (T6 needed for this)
Solder joint for GPS has gone bad.
This is a cheap board!
Started at 10:10 and all done and packed away by 11:20 including a coffee break.
Fired up the beast and after a few minutes, red line through GPS symbol went away and car showing in its correct location.
First dealer I spoke to about replacing this wanted £500, second said they'd have to run diagnostics first at a cost of £180.
I thought I'd take the chance and it appears to have paid off!

Hi fishst - what was the issue you were solving? No gps at all or intermittent?
I have a strange issue on my 2017 SVR. It shows me parked about 3-4 houses over from where I am. Always about 300ft or so to the east.
And if I pull up the map using the App on the phone of a recent drive around town on our Land Rover it tracks the route directly down every road. On the F Type app I see it wandering on and off the roads, sometimes snapping to the next road over for a while then apparently driving back through buildings onto the correct road again
Had the dealer check it out under warranty a couple of years ago and they couldn't explain it. I didn't pursue it as it doesn't really matter - just a bit odd. Wondering if gps issues are common here?

My car always seems to be "parked" a couple of houses away from mine, and I've experienced the "not where I am" while driving once since 2018, so not a frequent occurrence for me.
Just back from a 650 mile trip into South Wales, Brecon Beacons, Black mountains, up to Snowdonia and back through the Cotswolds.
Awesome scenery. "A" roads rather than motorways.
Back up was phone (didn't use) and OS maps (used to plan the best driving route).
GPS spot on all the way! Even what side of the road I was on.

I am guessing that the components you are referring to have built-in antennae and do not need an external antenna when they have clear sky access.
You do not need to carry around an antenna to use your cell phone, do you??
Plus, if JLR was able to hide it so well, why would they not do the same for the coupes??
The convertible antenna is located under the luggage compartment lid in the Sigma Pod. In the North American market, this is for GPS, satellite radio, and most of the digital (HD) radio services (including analog FM and AM):
The live traffic antenna is located under the top of the instrument panel.

Thank you! I figured there had to be an antenna somewhere. Those components are buried in metal. It would be like putting your cellphone in the glove compartment and expecting it work as well!
