But... some of these pics show the car slammed like it's on bags. If that's a static drop that is way too low for the streets in my neighborhood, and I would guess it would set off all sorts of warnings on the suspension

If you look at all the pics closely you will see that it is not really slammed, just maybe as low as you would get with H&R springs.
It's fairly obvious that the slammed look pics (like the one you posted) have been achieved by shoving a wheel & tyre combo under the car tyre before lowering the hoist onto it.

The drop is due to the aftermarket suspension, not the wheels.
If you look at all the pics closely you will see that it is not really slammed, just maybe as low as you would get with H&R springs.

Looking again, I see what you are saying. It looks like the wheel is propped in place, missing a center cap and the lugs too.
