Default Scraaaaaaaape

So one downside to the new F-Type ownership is getting onto my drive from the road - I always scrape the fender saver strip despite trying different angles, speeds etc. I think it may come down to figuring out how put down some temporary bridging - I've seen anything from bits of wood to what look like recycled tires at varying prices. Anybody tried these and can suggest which ones worked out best ?

If you mean the strip under the front bumper, about the only thing that you can do is drive slowly and at an angle so that only 1 tire at a time goes over the area that causes scraping.

I think that part is only $35 and it can easily be replaced when worn to a nub.

Every time we drive out of our Garage it USED to scrape, one day the strip came off completely, I never replaced it. It feels so much better not having to hear it every time.

Just live with it. All 3 whiskers cost less than $120 in total and are easy to replace. They will also last a long time with a lot of scraping. If the plastic streamers get too noticeable, just shave them off with a sharp knife.

Yes, tried all "angles of attack" but scraaaape always results, especially reversing off the drive. I was pleasantly surprised at the price of the sacrificial part, so I guess when I wear it down, I'll have to decide to replace it and renew the scraping ;-)

I had a similar problem with the street to driveway interface, I had the whole thing cut out and a more gentle slope concreted in.... Not TOO expensive but really is nice.

I was looking for a less permanent (and maybe expensive) solution to avoid HOA grief...

As for the $35 lip piece is its only function to be a warning hit-piece or is it needed for aerodynamics?

The whiskers do serve as air dams (maybe minimally), so keep them in place and let them scrape.

I have steep lip and solved the problem by reversing into my driveway. No more scrape except when I forget and..... the car facing forward looks ready to roar out of the garage

Earlier on Forum recomended to use fine sandpaper to keep bottom edge looking good. I found a fine sanding block that works great. I guess eventually will sand down!

I use the Bridjit curb ramp. I liked the 1st 3 pieces enough that I extended it across my 3 car driveway. Very heavy and doesn't move except in heavy rain, and then only a couple feet at most. Amazon has the 3 piece set for $285 shipped with Prime. I used wood in the past and it always floated away.

You have to think of this part as the whiskers on your cat. They enable the feline the ability to know if it can fit into a given space. The one and only time I've experienced this painful noise happened when I fell prey to a rodeside hotdog stand. My lust for hotdogs and need to make a dramatic entrance got the best of me. I about faced my direction of travel and proceeded to enter a gravel parking lot a wee bit hotter then necessary. Neglecting to assess the topography of the undulating parking lot I proceeded to turn my 2017 F Type S into an expensive bulldozer. The noise resonated through my skull like a dentist drill bottoming out on a root canal followed by a spray of 3/8 pea stone showering the hot dog stand twelve feet away......What to do?
Now clearly I had the attention of the hot dog salesman and all the potential customers.
I now felt compelled to a least buy a hot dog so I swallowed my pride ,exited my car and without missing a beat I explained "That's what that part is supposed to do."
Now one positive outcome of making such a dramatic entrance was , like Moses parting the Red Sea I was able to go to the front of the line as the vacationing family of three were so shell shocked by the shower of driveway debris that as I approached they backed up, possibly not knowing and fearing the stability of one crazed driver of a sports car turned excavator...
I bought one hot dog, left a $10.00 tip just in case I scratched the stainless steel side of the hotdog cart, inhaled my purchase in two bites and as stoically as one can, considering the situation, exited.
Now this was a leval of embarrassment that one seldom achieves in life and one I hope never to repeat.....
Please watch your whiskers...

Anyone happen to have the 3 part numbers readily available for the whiskers. Mine are starting to look a bit ratty.

For me (with 1.5" lower H&R springs), it's not my driveway, but the occasional entrance to parking lots. Love the stance, love the handling, not stressing over replacing $100 in parts every two years. I can keep those whiskers trimmed, but they are now getting to the point that they may not be offering adequate warning.

Rivet a few metal tabs to what's left of the skirt so you get adequate warning?
