Thumbs up Can't wait...!

Well yesterday (like today) started off in spectacular fashion so after Java & Jalopies, about 30 of us cruised Cannery Row, the ocean side of Pacific Grove and then onto Carmel...in a t-shirt and shorts, we attracted a bunch of attention, lol!

Shift,

Just FYI, with all the attention on drones these days, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is really cracking down. Under the hobbyist drone-use regulations, an operator is prohibited from flying in any area that might endanger people or property.

Operating over or near a public road would a clear be a violation of those regulations. The consequences could be a fairly substantial Federal Civil Penalty, and if a police officer witnessed it, the report would quite likely be referred to the FAA. Posting such a video on a website, would greatly increase your odds of getting busted.

While you might think the above is highly unlikely and you're willing to take your chances, I can definitively tell you (because of what I do for a living), that the FAA Safety Hotline is now getting hundreds of citizen and law enforcement reports of drone use every month.

Maybe you could see if Top Gear USA would be interested in getting a shot of you all. (Never watch it, I only watch the original.)

And, as usual, good advice from Foosh.

Shift, the FAA has not promulgated the proposed new rules yet. Keep it under 55 pounds, under 400 feet and away from airports and secure airspace (here locally the men in black are happy to remind you quite forcibly where those are).

Lance,

That is NOT entirely accurate. The rules for "hobbyist" applications (model aircraft) have been on the books for many decades, and the type of use Shift describes falls under those rules. However, because drone hysteria and popularity has increased exponentially, those rules are now being enforced to an extraordinary degree. Those rules include keeping them away from situations where people and property are endangered. Flying over (or near) a public road is quite likely to draw a lot of attention and is a clear violation.

The rules you refer to were recently proposed and pertain to the commercial use of drones. I work for the FAA.

Default March 21 Drive

I am in for the drive and would like to add in a friend, Suketu, who will ride with me and join us for the lunch.

Marc Arnold

P.S. I assume the drive is in the morning before the lunch and then we break up after lunch, right?

Wow...15 cars so far...that'll be epic!

Should JLRNA be involved? I really think we should get as much ink and exposure as possible...it will probably be the largest gathering of F-Types aside from a JLR event.

If you have any contacts at JLRNA, ask them if they'll pay for our lunch. Or gas.
