Installed mine today and I LOVE IT. A 28% reduction in throw may not sound like a lot, but it is. It feels like a toggle switch, with no slop, and a satisfying thunk as it goes into gear. Reminds of the MGW short throw racing shifter I had in my muscle car days.

10/10, highly recommended mod.

Hey Unhingd, does this make me the second person ever with a short throw kit on an F-Type?

Took 2h15m, no lift, and we didn't remove the exhaust. Half of that time was spent on the 13mm bolt.

Definitely easier with two people. Can be done in a garage with regular tools. Just requires patience.

Unhingd's photos and notes were very helpful.

We're making automotive history here!

If you haven't installed yours yet, get it done ASAP. It feels great.

Post questions, I'm happy to answer.

I'm probably going to end up doing it your way, except without a garage, a creeper, or an assistant.

Today might have been the day, but for getting ready for dinner for 18. And the rain. Did I mention the lack of a garage?

The "P" part of ASAP isn't looking soon enough

Likewise.
Kurt,
Did you move the heat shields towards the rear as suggested, or were you able to snake your hands past them while in place?

We did move the heat shields.

We had one guy underneath the car, and one from above to assist.

We used a GearWrench to fit in the space.

I did 20 or so miles of spirited driving today and I'm in love with this shifter.

Only 3 more shifters left at the group rate of $232.15 (incl. 2 day shipping) through April 30. Then the remaining units go up for sale on eBay for $285.

No pics of the fitted, final look from inside the cab, yet? I guess it doesn't matter.....

But, anything else I should consider doing while my car is on a lift? I guess the x-pipe if I was going to do it, but I'm quite happy with my current sounds....

It looks 100% exactly the same as OEM. You're replacing the shaft that connects the shift knob to the shift linkage. Nothing visible changes.

If you're new to short shifters, you may want to read this guide that explains the concept: https://www.short-shifters.com/short-shifter/

Perhaps a demonstration of the throw differences?

Unc, take a pic of your OEM stick shift. That way you'll have a pic of exactly what it looks like.

Seriously, no change in interior appearance or length at all. Looks dead stock. Knob remains in exactly the same place.

EDIT: Sorry, Kurt...didn't see your post until after I submitted this one.

I tried taking a video shifting with one hand and recording with the other. Has the same production value as the Blair Witch Project.

Sooo....give this try:

Please take careful note of the broken finger. Had nothing to do with the shifter installation. (Whoever said that softball wasn't a full contact sport?)

I just installed my short shifter. No need to remove the exhaust; just jiggle the heat shields out of the way a bit and use an articulating gear wrench on the 13 mm bolt. My biggest problem was getting that lower plastic thing with the 4 tabs to budge; what a PITA!
Anyway, kudos to Lance. He really came through on this. The new shifter is better made than the factory piece I took out. Again, thanks, Mr. unhinged!! You da man.

Now, all you cats with a manual gearbox: you NEED to do this! This is what Jag should have put in to begin with. The smile on my face driving my car now matches the one I had when I took delivery. It is awesome.

I was tied up today (running local radio for a CERT drill) but might be able to crawl under the car tomorrow. a question:

Articulating gear wrench? I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean a ratchet with a universal joint on the extension or something else?
