Question Should I get a Technical Insurance? - F-type SVR 2018 (29.000km)

Hi guys,

I'm faced with a dilemma, should I buy a Technical Insurance for a total of €1.350 // £1.150 // $1.550 which will cover engine and transmission failurs or not.

Car info: F-Type SVR 2018, and has driven 29.000km.

Is there any known issues with the F-Type SVR from 2018 around that mileage? Or anything I should be aware of?

The company that I'm leasing the car at said it might be a good idea, but I want to run it by the pros (you guys) before making the final decision.

Thanks!

Buying an extended warranty is something you do for piece of mind. Or not. Like all insurance, you hope you're wasting your money because you really don't want the problem. It's the same whether the policy is for life insurance or car maintenance. Keep in mind that the profit margin on car warranties is around 50%. So, you MIGHT have a problem, the warranty MIGHT cover it, and the company MIGHT still be around and pay the claim. Or not. Overall, the expected value of issues is about half of the premium. Your money. Your piece of mind. Your call. If you DO buy, make sure the company is reputable and you have a good understanding of what is/isn't covered. It's also a good idea to talk with your local shop to make sure the insurance company is reasonable to deal with. It won't do you any good if it's one of the the companies that looks for any excuse to reject a claim. Good luck and, most importantly, focus on enjoying your SVR!

Just bought my '18 SVR and with 11,800 miles the check engine light came on. I expect I have an O2 sensor problem. My 16 R had the same issue. Also, had the rear differential leak in the R. I have been concerned with the water pump and piping on the R. Not sure if those last two problems apply to an '18 or if they would even be covered under extended warranty. Fortunately here in USA, with 5 years of oem coverage, I can handle a few problems under oem warranty till 2023 on the SVR.

I don't believe there have been many (if any) transmission failures reported here. A search of the forum will reveal if any. Engine failures have been reported, but again I don't think they are failing at alarming rates.

Thanks for your reply guys, really appreciate it!

@jaguny How much is the expected cost to fix your O2 sensor problem? It's the first time I'm leasing so I'm really trying to cover as many pitfalls as possible :P

O2 sensors are covered by warranty, so the cost would be $0. And, at least in the US, the standard coverage for the sensors has been extended to 15 years, 150k miles. There may/may not be a similar concession in Europe.

Okay, the leasing company told me that there weren't any warranty on the car.

And I confirmed with Jaguar here in Denmark and they told me that the warranty is only 3 years and that has sadly pasted on my vehicle.
I don't know about the O2 extended warranty though, I've got to check that

Appreciate it @uncheel !

For what it's worth, forum members who have had O2 sensors replaced in the US have reported costs ranging from $72-$83 (self installed), to $486-$785 (at the dealer).

Yes, as Uncheel has responded. I would hope it is covered in Europe as well as they tend to have strict environmental laws.

JLR Canada also provides a 15 year warranty on the 02 sensors.

Is this cost per year? I was just quoted $3200 for an additional 3 years/50K mile extended warranty for my '17R. This is an aftermarket warranty company recommended by Dealer service manager. Covers everything as the CPO, no wear and tear items.
