Default SIM Card problem

When I picked up my new to me F-Type this weekend, there was an unopened envelope in the glove box with the Jaguar Micro-SIM card not yet detached from the credit card sized card. Being a techno-nerd I decided I wanted to install it in the SIM card slot in the center console cubby. After determining which direction to install the Micro-SIM, I proceeded to attempt to install it. On every other vehicle and device that I've had the SIM card kind of clicks into place when inserted. This card will not lock into place, in fact about 1/8 of an inch of it stick out from the SIM slot. The Connectivity Setting on the touch screen seems to indicate that it is reading the SIM, then that screen either disappears or I get a message that it is unable to read the SIM.

1) Should the SIM insert fully and "click" into place?
2) Am I doing something wrong? I have the gold contacts surface of the SIM facing down and I've tried both orientations of the SIM with those contacts facing down.
3) Do I need a different SIM card to establish the car on a cellular network in order to have HotSpot services and data for the NAV system?

Nevermind. User error. Gold contacts face up. Doh!

You need the contacts facing upwards and the shortest end facing outwards.
D'oh! Just read your last line!

what exactly does the sim card do? I have never inserted my sim into slot....bought last year, 2017 F Type S. Perhaps Jaguar Las Vegas did it?
Thanks scm

It lets you use extra features of the navigation system, etc. that require connection to the internet. The car's internal SIM is only for Jaguar-specific comms.
