Default Smell from A/C - MY15 340hp Convertible

I'm getting an intermittent unpleasant smell from the AC. Has anyone else experienced this?

If you live in a humid climate, you may have mold growing in the system. Replacing the interior filter and having the dealer fumigate the system with a moldicide will resolve the issue.

Thanks for the reply. No humidity in SoCal. Any other possible causes?

Probably totally irrelevant, but my 2013 XF needed an evaporator or condenser (can't remember which) replaced because of faulty drainage or some such. The air coming from the vents began to smell like old gym socks. It was covered under warranty.

Thanks for the info. I'll schedule a trip to the dealer.

Luckily I haven't noticed that nasty smell in my F yet.
But all of our Mercedes & BMW's have had those musty smell.
We use this in between visits to the dealer:

Changing the cabin air filter also got rid of the smell, for a few weeks...

Many of the second hand cars for sale in New Zealand come from Japan so spend a month or so on a boat, sitting on a dock etc so the air con unit tends to go mouldy.

My '10 XKR stank when I bought it in November so I tried this product and it worked really well:

It contains a number of different things but the initial smell was a minty one and once that had gone the air con no longer smelt.

My vents don’t smell, but the front end of the car smells like roadkill, and I checked closely, there isn’t any.

I've got a scheduled dealer visit on Monday to handle the A/C issue as well as an issue with the stereo. I've got some door rattles so I either need to get the foam installed, got some blown speakers or both.

You may have run over something - try washing the engine and under carriage.
