Someone cut through my f-type convertible top...
This morning I found my car’s soft top was stabbed ...The rip is from the passengers side to the driver side. It’s about 30 inches long cut.
I’m trying to search for the solution to repair it. I thought about buying the parts and possible alternatives repair tools... Any cost efficiency suggestions? And how much will it cost?

A) We have owned convertibles continuously since 1975. No insurance policy we have ever had excluded the soft top. I am having a very hard time believing such a policy exists especially in California which is about the most consumer oriented state in the US and there is elected Insurance Commissioner.
B) At one time we never locked the car because we figured it was easier to let them in than repair the top.
C) In Marin I had someone toss a cigarette into the open car. Small amount of damage to the upholstery. There will always be losers.
D) This should be covered by the comprehensive coverage of the policy, no deductible.
E) I expect you will replace the top. Let us know what it goes for. They are never cheap.

Dan_NL, Two things. The 25K number is nuts and I would bet a complete mistake. Would I believe 3-4 K, sure, as long as we are just talking about the fabric. As to the lunacy, fixing a top is just a question of money. Fixing a mind is a problem a whole different order. Having a nice car means receiving some complements from nice people, and being exposed to the lunacy of of a few. Better to take the risk than drive a Prius.

Is that what hit & run revolutionaries use to hold their old AK47s together?

This was one of the reasons that my wife did not want an F-Type for herself and opted for a retractable hard top. I am sorry this happened to you and I can't even begin to tell you the morons that will purposely spill a drink in your car or food when you run a quick errand and don't close the top. Get insurance and hopefully Karma gets this idiot. Sad that some people have nothing better to do with their time.

"Gorilla Tape" is just heavy duty / extra sticky duct tape, and is great for some things, like holding together a 20 year old Hyundai... But it would be a shame to see even the best of tapes used on a Jaguar.. After the repair is done, if you suspect it may happen again - I would look into a dash cam. Just set it up at an angle likely to catch any offenders, and set it up so it's on while the car is parked unsupervised. Unfortunately there's probably little to no evidence to catch the culprit as they still retain the knife (?) with finger prints, and even if there was any sort of surveillance, the cameras are usually low quality.

I'm sorry to hear about the damage. I see from your profile this a 2018 vehicle so if subject to a loan, your options may be limited.
The parts costs are:
1. complete replacement soft top - $11,200 (worst case scenario but unlikely to be required)
2. cover - $4100
3. headlining (presumably also cut?) - $905
The "correct" repair is likely to be replacement cover + headling + fitting. I see some US Jaguar Dealers offering good discounts on these parts. Fitting is a skilled job. Not beyond the capable DIY'er but difficult.
The alternative is to have a trim shop replace the damaged panel. Considerably less cost but finding a shop capable of matching the original won't be easy.
