Has anyone out there figured a solution for this? I can’t seem to get the gas cap to behave on fill up. There’s a short cable that I think should allow the cap to hang from a channel on the fuel filler door but mine is too short. It becomes a frustrating situation with every fill up. Let the cap hang against your paint, or?
Had the same question for a while - till somebody on this forum alerted me.
Still falls off frequently!!
Also, gas pump attendants (we still have those in MA) don't bother.
I'm an old guy, been pumping gas for over 60 years. I always remove the cable. Set the cap on the gas pump or hold onto to. Haven't forgotten one yet! But I guess there's always a first time!!

Of course, when you're old enough to forget to replace it, you'll also be too old to remember where you left it. Cheers!
(Back when I was a pump jockey as a teenager, we once had a customer drive off without removing the nozzle. The metal tube broke off into their tank - and they asked if the station would pay to get it out.)
