Anyone else had this problem? I get this alert occassionaly, seems to be more often during colder months. I've gotten this alert from the day I drove it home. It's been into service two or three times but still comes on. I know ive only taken it in a few times but Its old already so I just live with it. It goes away after driving a few miles. Maybe the battery? Anyway, I might be selling my car by the end of the year and want this fixed before I do so while its under warranty. I will probably take it back to the dealer this month while im off work but wanted to see if this is a known problem. Thanks
I used to get this occasionally when the car had been sitting idle for a few days and I came to the conclusion it was when the battery got low. Give it a good charge and see if the message recurs.
its my daily driver, should my battery be low? Maybe a crap battery.
The error message could be a number of things related to the SOS system from the Antenna, telematics module, etc. I had been getting this error message on and off last year, then one day it stayed on lol. Finally took it to the dealer in the fall for some warranty work and they found it was the Telematics/SOS microphone. Took them a couple hours to diagnose then had to request the part from a dealer from out of state. Took about 3 business days from start to finish.
I get this occasionally. Isn't part of the SOS system GPS?...in order to get a lock on your position? I always chalked the "limited function" warning to atmospheric or locations where GPS lock is questionable.

Not sure on the error...But to your question. If your drive is short, and/or if the battery is marginal, you can definitely have battery issues on daily drivers. I.E. If you crank the car and drive a short distance to work or ?? and stop...then start again, it taxes the battery to start, and then does not have time for the alternator to recharge it. If it is marginal/weak...It could be right on the edge.
Again...I do NOT know what is causing the message, and I do NOT know how far your commute is...Just stating a fact on how/if daily driver cars can have a battery issue.
Mine does that in areas where there's an issue with cell reception, usually in the mountains. There are a couple dead spots around town though where my satellite radio also cuts out (in my other cars, too) at about the same time so there's some sort of interference in those areas.
Keep an eye on where it's occurring. If you're lucky it may not be the car.
My dealer checked and couldn't even find a record of the error popping up despite me taking a picture of it.

Thanks for your input. i will keep track of when it happens, hopefully that's the issue. That makes sense since it alwalys happens when i first start driving either from my home or work. At work im in a parking garage so.....makes sense. Thanks again, i'll keep track of when it happens.
I got this twice in the same weekend when I first purchased the car last year, and never again.. very strange. Perhaps it was the low battery as the car had sat at the dealer for a while.
This message pops up when there is an issue with you telematics control unit. So would likely be either telephone signal back to JLR or GPS signal or data credits on the internal SIM card or something like that.
Ive normally seen this with a low battery condition. Charge your battery to start. If there is still issue, there is a Telematics backup internal battery. That can be replaced to repair your issue.
Try a battery disconnect. The SOS Limited Functionality warning popped up repeatedly after dealer performed the amplifier software update. Dealer said car just needed line of sight to GPS but of course it didn't go away...until I dis/reconnected the battery, after which it hasn't reappeared since.
Hey guys, my XJ was in the Jaguar garage for 5 weeks and came back with the same warning. The "master tech" said it should rectify itself after a week or so. It's been 4 days since I got the car back. The warning did not appear on the dashboard yesterday, but it returned today so I charged the battery to see if it goes away. SDD is coming up with the following: (I'm still hoping it's the backup battery that will eventually "rectify itself"). I didn't have this problem before the car was repaired, though it was cold over the last few weeks). I haven't tried disconnecting the battery yet.
I did also have issues with the InControl app. It started working yesterday after work and I'm convinced it's when the SOS message was gone at the same time. I wonder if it's related to JLR servers. The InControl app works fine now, but the SOS is still coming up.
