special order change

This is prime reason why you never give more than $500 deposit on a car. If they aren't will to take that, then go to another dealer as they don't want your business.
If they won't give back your deposit then just tell them that you want it back after they sell the car you ordered.

@Lynx - I'm to blame for ordering the car sight unseen. Not having a moonroof is a deal breaker for me.
They went through all the hassle to let me test drive (twice) and place my order. And they'll potentially have an extra ftype (without a moonroof) that they'll need to sell.
From my perspective, forfeiting the deposit is fair. However, the dealer sent me an email this afternoon saying that he *might* have another ftype for me with a moonroof and he should be able to let me know by tomorrow at noon. My fingers are crossed.

You owe them absolutely nothing to them for test driving a vehicle that you are planning on spending 6 figures. That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. That is their job! I say this with kindness, but grow a spine and stop letting these dealers walk all over you. They should be doing whatever they can to make you happy, not the other way around.
You want an F-type with a moonroof, tell them that you won't take delivery unless it has one and if they can't find one you want your deposit back. Simple as that.

The fact that you have not engaged Jaguar and the Local Market Manager is causing you and us a lot of heartache. Good dealers want to develop a relationship with their customers and Jaguar wants to have happy clients. Believe me i know. I had originally ordered a 2012 XJ SuperSport with the Speed Package early in 2012 and it was held up so long in building that it was going to be delivered within 2 weeks of cut over to the 2013 model run. Jaguar showed me the 2012 car and offered a super deal but i wanted the 2013. So they made it a factory demo and ordered me a 2013. it cost me 2k more as the price had gone up and my original dealer gave up the franchise. My new dealer asked for 1k more in profit as i had had a very good deal already. In addition Jaguar USA was so apologetic that they sent me a check for $4,500.00 as a goodwill gesture. Remember Jaguar wants you in a Jaguar more than the dealer.

I've never met a dealer that had heartburn giving someone a new order slot if their existing order had fairly standard colors/appeal. Without asking, my dealer immediately offered a new build slot when we found out they upgraded the Infotainment system starting with orders submitted in this month. I passed on the offer (for now).

A few things:
1. Depending on the state you're in, you're legally entitled to get your deposit back.
2. My dealer was able to give me a cut-off date. It was about 6 weeks after I ordered. And from that date it is about 8 weeks until delivery in the U.S.
3. If the dealer said they couldn't tell you the cut-off date, that's b.s. and you deserve your deposit back on ethical grounds.
4. If you place another order, you certainly don't have to forfeit all of your deposit for the original car. The dealership can always sell it. You should be able to negotiate sacrificing maybe just $1,000 of it. And given #2 above, you shouldn't have to sacrifice ANY of it.

Hello to all. I just joined and this is my first post. I ordered an F Type R in US (NJ) on May 8th. The lock out date was May 9th and the expected delivery date is July 11th ( so the 8 weeks to delivery seems about right) The Incontol Apps was an option which I selected and was in the dealer system as an option. Fingers crossed that it arrives with the apps. In the process of selling my 2012 GT-R to make way for the new arrival.
