So two of the most prestigious automobile brands may be owned by German manufacturers but are not built in Germany, but their most well heeled owners own Rolls Royce and Bentley. Why because the Brits know how to build luxury cars drivers and passengers like and no one else has The Queen and Jaguar XJ and Range Rover are her "daily" drivers.

No I was just curious about what you were doing in formula 1 at 5 years old.

I was watching the races, asking questions about the teams and drivers. I would have been able to tell you at that age that the Ford engines were British.

This quarrel is a little silly. Anyone who follows F1 knows that its teams are overwhelmingly British.

Again, the point of the video is for the Brits to feel proud of what they've been doing, and I don't begrudge them that one bit. It's not trying to say that Britain's auto industry is "better" than any other.

What could have been a great thread, ruined by childish bickering...

schraderade,

I saw this episode when it first aired in the U.S. and was quite moved by it. I think it may be one of the best segments ever on Top Gear, rivaled only by the 50th Anniversary of the E-type on the White Cliffs of Dover. I'm a Yank, but I thoroughly appreciate the inspiration and effort to gather together such a diverse representation of the design and manufacturing excellence of a nation widely thought to be no longer relevant in the global economy.

If television programs in other countries have done similar tributes, I would appreciate and applaud them as well, though it's hard to imagine anyone else doing the job as well as Clarkson, Hammond and May.

Thanks for posting this for our enjoyment and appreciation!

Cheers,

Don
