Storing CDs

Storing CDs
I have the premium sound system with satellite radio. Page 12 of the Quick Start guide refers to the storing of up to 10 CDs for "virtual" playback. I can't seem to find the methodology for uploading CDs into storage.
Anyone out there been successful at this?

Yes, I've loaded 5 or 6 CDs so far, no problem. Check out the 'Portable Media Controls' section around p. 103 of the manual. When you put a CD in, an 'Upload' button appears on the right of the Audio/Video control screen.
You pretty much have to rip the CD while you're driving somewhere. If you turn on the ignition but not the engine, it turns itself off after 5 minutes, which isn't quite long enough to rip the CD. I've had one older CD where it wouldn't save the last track (although it plays fine.) But otherwise, it works fine and it's handy to have 10 CDs available.

When you select the Audio/Video screen, the option of My Music will appear on the left. Once you select My Music, you want to select the CD Changer option. You will insert the disc and then push the Upload button in the upper right part of the toch screen. It will ask you which slot you want to store the music in (1-10). It stores the music in an uncompressed format for the best sound quality. My experience is that most CD's take between 10-15 minutes to fully download.
I hope that helps.

10-15 per. Yes, it's a pain. I constructed 10 "Best of" CD's that stay as constants, plus a USB with a mix of separate songs and folders by Artist and/or Theme. (Plus Clarkson's Top Gear video.) There's a lot of duplication on the USB, but plenty of space to handle. The CD drive itself gets used on a rotating basis for anything different that strikes my mode.
But, to be honest, in good weather and the top down, the stereo isn't my primary source of entertainment.

Audiophiles, feel free to cringe here: I rip to MP3 at maximum sampling rate available to me (256?) and put them on a USB drive. I've got some 16GB ones that only stick out about 5mm. With the background noise in the F-Type, I find that more than adequate.
I never tried uploading a CD. I have all my old vinyl but no way to play it.

Also loaded a heap of downloaded MP3 tracks onto the same mini USB.
Nearly all are perfectly OK but a couple at less than 320 are not so great, and the volume varies a bit.
I have also uploaded six of my favourite CDs to the hard drive, took a while but works a charm!

Like you, I rip to MP3 but use variable bit rate, which often comes out higher than 256kbps. BTW, the sampling rate is usually 44100, and ain't the same as the encoded bit rate.

I tried the USB method but my audio files have bitrates that are all over the place, including some that are over 320. As a result only some files would be recognized, and I couldn't be bothered to go through my files to identify and fix this to the car's liking. I also had an old iPod that was permanently plugged in, and that pretty much solved all my problems but then the iPod died and could not be resuscitated. So I just play podcasts over bluetooth instead.
