Stripes are a fashion item. Not only the 'go-faster' markings on the side of cars, but also the stripes along the centre/top of the car appear through history.
I remember painting my 1977 Triumph and having a major headache from applying the thin pin stripes in gold coloured tape on the shoulders of the doors and fenders..
The F-Type has such refined shapes that in MHO stripes would downgrade this 'body language' ...

IMO, the base color of car determines to me if stripes would look proper or not.
On the silvers and grays I say no stripes. The car looks beautifully formal and stripes would just seem to clash with designed intent.
Now if my FT was green, red or dark blue, I would think those colors just beg for stripes. Those colors IMO are not so formal and the stripes would just set it off very well.

I don't think the Racing Green needs anything but a few coats of good carnauba!

The Shelby Mustangs have always had stripes on them. White w/blue stripes or Blue w/white stripes. Those are the traditional American racing colors.
Hertz also had Shelbys to rent for a short time. The Hertz cars were black w/gold stripes.I guess they didn't see the big picture on that one. What could possibly happen? :-)

I think it depends on the car.

Not accusatory question, but serious question out of my own ignorance... I'm a BRG fanatic, and I understood that to be as formal as it gets, ie cars the color of their country's racing colors (livery??)?
I guess it would call for some fun decals when racing, tho... I'd always be #42. =)

Fair call on the color determining it, but also the type of car... the joke "you wouldn't put a bumper sticker on a ferrari" joke fits, but I guess I think this car is already too noticeable for my tastes. LOL
