Default SVR vs R ?

So in my previous thread, I was looking for opinions on the C7 Corvette Grand Sport (current car) vs the F-Type R. Got lots of great info and appreciate it.

Now that I was actually able to drive a F-Type S and came away thinking that it is a good car, and adding 200hp to the mix is going to take it to a great car. Interior room is a bit less than the C7, but is OK.

So now the question becomes....... For those that have had or even just driven both the R and the SVR, what are your thoughts?

I like the quilted interior on the SVR, the front/Rear fascia and fixed wing differences between the two, but other than the extra 25hp, would I be wishing I had gotten the SVR if I bought an R?

Either would be a couple years old and low mileage. It would also come from a dealer due to trade in tax differences, and likely be CPO.

I think it's going to be just your own personal taste. I personally like the design of the R over the SVR. Both great cars, I just like the look better. The extra horses don't make up the difference for me. Good luck!

I think that the SVR is supposed to "feel" as though the front end is lighter. Even though I prefer the look of the R over it, personally I'd rather a lighter feeling front end.

+1- local dealer had my ideal spec SVR when I started looking and I ended up with a very different R months later - I went for the SVR because I figured the most expensive one is the best one, but I really didn’t like the looks as much as my R - and I can’t use all the power I currently have so 25 more HP wasn’t a motivator. Really didn’t like the rear diffuser, wing, and hood vents. I love the SVR front fenders though - they are awesome and I love the quilted leather; however, I anted red interior and didn’t like that style with red as much as the black. Like everything, personal preference. I thought I wanted white with black leather and love silver, but didn’t consider it until I saw the rhodium with extended red in person then I was all done. Good luck deciding, all decisions in this scenario equal “winning”!

Have previously owned an R and currently have an SVR. The SVR is a nice upgrade to an already excellent platform especially when optioned with the ceramic brake package. The difference in power is not really noticeable until you hit speeds beyond 60 MPH where it pulls a little harder. Though it does come down to individual taste, I absolutely love the rear spoiler and I have been told by many that they prefer the car's rear profile much better and it gives it a more masculine look when compared to the R. The side and front profile edge goes to the SVR in my opinion along with a higher quality feel in the interior due to the quilt pattern seats along with a few additional trim finishes. Is 25 extra HP, 14 more pounds of torque, wider tires, approximately 100 pounds less weight (depending on options) and a slightly improved suspension worth the extra cost to move up to an SVR? Probably not unless you can find a great deal to help counter the price jump which is now around $12-15K on comparable same year vehicles. I do think the differences between the R and SVR are more impressive than the add ons you get with BMW's M3/4/5 Competition versions which I have also owned (M4) in the past, though the price gap was not as steep. Hope this helps and good luck with your decision.

jh225...you have me a bit confused. Are you looking to buy a used F type or a new one? In 2021 (the current new model line), there is no SVR, only the type R, if you're looking to buy the high HP F type model. The 2021 F type R has the 575 HP V8 as the previous SVR models had. If you're looking at used and you can find the model (either type R or SVR), then you'll just have to decide based on the car(s) that are available and the price difference, color, options, convertible, coupe, etc. Good luck....

As stated in the OP, the vehicle will be a couple years old, regardless of which trim level.

Agreed with most here. I think the R looks better. You can get a tune on the R and be up to par with the SVR in terms of power.

I would go for the SVR if awd. I think is a wiser choice as is bit more exclusive than a R, the interior looks nicer, front fender also... the rear wing/spoiler doesn't look great on my opinion but definitely more sporty.

jh225, based on some of your comments in the forum, I think you would be more satisfied with a SVR.

SVR's +25 hp, or +4.5% more hp, than the R's
vs +15% to 30% increase in price is not worth it to me, but maybe worth it to you...

I don’t even care about the extra HP. It’s the interior, body panels, exhaust, etc. that has my interest.

Plus F-Type SVR prices seem to have bottomed out. Not much movement in last 2 years. Rs are still dropping. Which makes sense. There are thousands of Rs each model year from 2015-2020. SVR pool will always be more limited making it harder to negotiate.

I was having the same debate when I bought. Considered both. In the end the SVR won out. Not the 25hp which means nothing. But the more aggressive styling, I like the rear spoiler, carbon ceramic brakes were a big plus for me, and some of the other benefits like the special exhaust system

Question......... On an SVR with the wing delete (or non order), it will have the same “spoiler” as an R model does, yes?

If so, does an SVR ordered with the fixed wing still have the up/down spoiler?

I am looking at an SVR without the wing and am wondering if I can attach one as the factory does if I choose to later on.

The R can be specified with either the deployable spoiler (the up-down one) or a fixed spoiler (which doesn't move). Which "same" do you mean?

Maybe I’m not explaining right.......

For those SVR’s that have the fixed wing, do they ALSO have the deployable spoiler or are they different rear sections depending on which way it is ordered?
